Looks like you are right.

I'm not sure what happened to the post which seems to be the final straw.
It seemed to start off supportive, and pointing out the Europeanbahns initials are EB, and have been for a long time. And then in the next sentence it does seem to turn and bite EB. I am a bit confused about the thought process to be honest.

To me EBRail as a fictional rail operator name makes a reasonable amount of sense. MUCH more logical than it being any kind of thing supposed to do with E-Rail.
I think the original comment about it looking the same was intended to be just that, a comment, not a slur, but as things tend to do on forums, it either got taken the wrong way, or over reacted to and blown out of all proportion.

Through a combination of reasons, I think that Kens points about the forum are correct. It is very easy for it to become something which only really involves a relatively few customers, but the signal/noise ratio can be very high and you're left with something which probably is of no benefit to the developer.
Just to put it in to perspective, the MT forums tend to run nicely with little problem, BUT I do on probably 8 week cycles wonder if they do serve any real purpose. It only takes one disruptive poster to completely disturb the forum karma.

Seems a bit wrong to close the forums because of a few minor idiots.
The majority suffer as usual.

I suspect that the arguement is that its more than 'a few'.
It felt like it was almost everyone.

Funny that. You say one thing and you close a forum. :-?

My post was not a dig, merely agreeing with what others had already pointed out, in perhaps a sarcastic tone. Will add more later I'm sure, I'm off for a lesson.

People should have freedom of speech as long as they stick to the facts & do not direct abuse at an individual

Completely agree with you there Dave, I think its true to say that many people who first saw EB-Rail and new of us thought "hmmm isn't that similar to E-Rail". It was drawn to my attention a few weeks ago by several indivduals but I chose to ignore it, doens't really bother me what EB do with their names. I don't browse through the EB Forum regularly, but upon doing so yesterday found that thread to see that others had the thoughts previously brought to my attention.

Whether or not my post started the fire (certainly got 'Big Gaz' in a huff) is an interesting matter, as if it did then I've had one heck of a lot of abuse hurled at me from 'London United', but I shall deal with that separatley if need be.

Dave you mentioned in your post that there was a post that was 'the final straw', was this deleted as I did not see it. Be interesting to know the nature of it.

Whatever people think the EB forum has opened and closed many a time in the past, whether they chose to close it for good (they have said that before) is up to them, but I suspect it will be back.

This is a bit rediculous, it's like saying "southeastern" (toc in SE England) stole the name off "South West Trains" IMO...

Erm, I don't think thats what I meant.
I certainly did not at any point think that it was intended to be any connection implied to E-Rail, not until it was pointed out.

I actually think that the 1st use of EBRail *may* have been back when Dale and myself were with EB, which I think predates ERail by several years.
I seem to remember some mention of branding LBE stock as EB, but it was a very long time ago so I can't provide any evidence of this, except to say, after all thats gone on, I hope that people accept that I would not stand up and offer ANY defence in relation to EB if I did not think that there was some unjustified comments being made.

For the sake of utmost clarity.

To suggest that EBRail was intended to be anything other than Europeanbahn Rail is laughable.
To suggest that maybe more care should have been taken because it might look like E-Rail is also pretty laughable.

On the flip side, I think that the defence to the original comments was also overreaction, but if I were Ken, and my forum ended up like that, I think I'd close it too.

Sorry they weren't related those parts, I was just saying I agree with you, then moving onto another point.

All this after a perfectly simple and reasonable question which never was fully answered (i.e. will EuropeanBahn become EBRail officially or not)...

Indeed... I must admit I think EB did take this a bit too far and went OTT on this one... I'm sure trains2' comment in the thread was made in jest (albeit without a wink ;)).

Indeed, it does seem a bit OTT for a discussion, not what id call a hate speech, i have seen worse on forums where EB have closed down before.

EB has always been known as EB and has a reputation for selling well with lots of TS products so i don't see a reason for a name change IMHO.

Looks like the killer post is still on there, Johnny23 seems to have posted the post which is apparantly seen as the "final straw".

All a bit too much as far as im concerned
