Renaming Stock in MSTS

Post by ForburyLion »

Does anyone know how I can rename Loco's and Rolling stock in MSTS?

What I hope to do is, for example install 50015 Valiant into a file called 50015 (That bit I can manage!) and then get it to appear as 50015 Valiant in the MSTS menu's as it'll make it easier to find the Engine I'm after as they will all be in class & Number order.

Right, open the .ENG file using Wordpad, and scroll to the bottom. Above all the info on how to move the train and it's description, you'll see a line entitled 'Name' simply change that to what you want. Hope this helps.

Just remember that if you rename the rolling stock, then any Activities or Consists which refer to the old name will now be invalid and will cause problems for you unless you edit them as well.

Activities and consists refer to engines by the file and folder names, changing the value in the Name ( ) section of the .eng file does not cause problems.

Yes, but he did say he was renaming the folder to 50015 as well.

I've renamed before,Say you have "50000" in trainset folder,and you want "50015".
Copy\paste "50000" within trainset folder.Rename copied folder to "50015".Open this renamed folder,Rename Eng.file to "50015".
Should work,I've done it with waggons, until I can find the proper ones to use later. You'll still get original shapes of course, but the sim will treat as separate,as far as consists are concerned. This what you're after?
