Sorry about the Megaupload problems guys, but I don't have any alternative. I may have to move all the files onto that system because it's used 20GB bandwidth in 3 days, and will get expensive soon.

YouTube didn't work, it destroyed the videos when I uploaded (messed up the picture quality to the point of obscurity and made it very dark), and TBH I don't have the time for that. I'm unsure about uploading them to the UKTS file system because they'd probably be termed as being commercial.

I have no problems with people sharing these video files in other ways (email, P2P or whatever), I'm sure Making Tracks wouldn't mind either

Got some sort of irrelevant pop up when I looked and decided that I didn't want to download anything from a site that allows that kind of rubbish to bombard you just by looking at it.

Shame you can't get them hosted on a better/safer site.

Paranoid? Well I just spent four days trying to eliminate malware from my computer so maybe....... or maybe you didn't run Spybot or AdAware recently? There's some really nasty stuff out there at the moment and identity theft is no joke. Even worse much of it is cloaked in "respectability" and even offering to defend you from itself!

Geoff

PS if you're paranoid too.... check out MT's own web site. There's shed loads of screengrabs there.

I just ran the Marks Tey video with no problems; I'm on ntl, I run Opera accepting requested pop-ups, and a firewall/anti-virus combo.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Barry,

Don't get me wrong but.....

I've got what I thought was a cast iron defence but having had one box infected by my own stupidity, I installed AdAwareSE and Spybot on my newly resurrected box too and found to my horror that there were three infections on that too. You'll understand therefore that when I went to download and a pop-up page appeared I was doubly cautious.

There's a solid old saying "There's no such thing as a free lunch!".... so when sites offer fantastic facilities for nothing one has to ask "how do they do that then?"

As I already have a problem I'd be interested to know if anyone else is prepared to run checks on their machine with all their defence programmes and the download the videos and re-run those checks. Any volunteers?

The Marks Tey and Southend videos are not hosted on Megaupload, they're only a few megs a piece and are stored on my own webspace. This will be less hassle for users because some poor mug has shelled out money on making it free. I'm going to have to remove even those videos and put them on a different server now due to popularity.

Megaupload doesn't do anything that my Norton Internet Security thinks is bad. Zonealarm doesn't complain either. My work firewall and anti-virus has no issues. I don't generally go round suggesting people use services that are liable to fill their computers with viruses and spyware!

Megaupload (from what I can gather) makes its money from paying customers who want a much faster/richer service and they can offer bandwidth to free users. Sort of like UKTS with premium membership for those who pay, basic use to others.

I'm trying a google video upload now, I'll see how that goes.

May i make a suggestion, try filefront for hosting your files. You can host upto 1GB sized files and filefront is generally a lot better than the other free file hosting sites. (although you would have to register a free account)

Thank you, I will try that one as well. Always good to have more options.

The vids are uploading to Google now, but it looks like I'll have to wait to see how it goes. I think a human somewhere has to verify them before they are available after upload.

I wasn't suggesting for one moment that you would. However none of my installed security identified any problems untill I reninstalled AdAware and Installed Spybot. McAffe doesn't seem to pick up the same stuff that the Spyware search engines do.

Could they not be uploaded here? Matt sells MT's stuff through the site and we'd know it was a safe download here.

I don't see why not. After all Matt himself uploaded the file below and it it in the file library under http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-direc ... 24,cls=997 or the search path Home / Miscellaneous / Movie

As always it is down to Matt what he approves for download.

Google are going to take up to several days they say, so that's not hugely usefu for me right now. I'll wait and see how that goes though.

OK, I'll upload it here, it won't do any harm. The worst that can happen is rejection. :)

Hopefully that's water under the bridge now....?

I must say the screengrabs on MT's site look great and having lived in Ilford until I was 22 I can't wait.

Trouble is 46-68 would have been more my era  Still with all that lovely Eastern Region stock out there I'm sure there'll be kettles running along the line soon. Maybe with bin 1.6 you'll even be able to recreate the Thorpe Le Soken splitting of the train for Walton and Clacton. Guess that would need a siding for the Walton Loco though...

I've uploaded the high res Ipswich to London video to my webspace. I don't have too much bandwidth available, but it should suffice for now, maybe :-?

Please use save as instead of running it in the browser. :)

163MB - you're brave. :D

John, I will categorise that as you suggest, I'm ftp-ing right now.
