For Sale

Post by razorback »

Hi, all

What do you think to the idea of setting up a forsale thread ?

To sell unwanted routes or any thing else related to MSTS and others.
Before any 1 shouts not legal. I mean retail Routes Etc. not freeware.

If this is an acceptable idea it would help solve some of the problems seen on E Bay etc.

Freeware Routes coculd be postage & packing only.

Just a thought !!!!!

I also think this would be a good idea as there are a number of routes I would like but not for the full price and I can't buy anything off ebay as I don't have a credit card.

I remember there being a For Sale sub-forum a few years back. But it was axed for some reason.

I never was able to get rid of my copy of SVR. After advertising it about 3 times on e bay it achieved no bids at all. I offered it on the open forum and likewise no one wanted it. So its been consigned to my drawer where it will languish, probably for ever.

But back to the suggestion. I think the problem is that most software licences actually prohibit resale. I know no one ever bothers about that, but i think its there neverthelesss. At best its a very grey area which could cost a lot in legal fees to defend if it ever came to court. If Matt were to provide such a facility he could become personally liable in a case for breach of terms of licence.

If there was a way it was allowed, I would be interested in your SVR Lad491

Hmm.... I remember putting a few of my items on the For Sale(or whatever it was called) thread on here. And had a few time wasters - people who said they were going to buy the items and send their cheques but never did. And never responded to my PM's enquiring if they wanted the items or not. You know who you are! Though I did manage to sell one item to a happy buyer. So thanks to that person.

Laurie, I put my SVR on Ebay two years ago for a £9.99 minimum bid, and it ended up selling for £19.81. Sorry that you didn't have such luck. But you ought to try putting it on Ebay again, you should be able to get at least £8 for it even today.

The other place worth looking to sell secondhand is Amazon Marketplace - they take a fairly big commission but you do get up to 90 days as opposed to the 10 days max (I think) on Ebay.

Unfortunately the market for secondhand stuff *has* dwindled lately. We replaced some DVD's with HD-DVD imported from USA but lucky to get a few pounds for the old stuff. The shops are awash with cheap £5.99 new titles even the blockbusters from six months ago are in the bargain bin, which has killed interest in buying used. So I guess it's the same with software and in the case of add-ons most people who are interested will probably have bought them by now anyway.

MSTS route's delivered by Post from the CD ordering page ie the Freeware rote's have Not for Resale on them for a reason.

You can practicaly give them away but not sell the.

The Payware stuff is up to you, and your whole Responsibility, which is probably why the sub thread "For Sale" was removed to eliminate the responsibility from the UKTS site.

How about a swap programme?

Could forum members agree to swap CDs with one another?: i.e. just stick a disc in the post, and no financial transaction takes place: you get an MSTS add-on for an MSTS add-on.

Just a thought.

Fore Sale

Post by razorback »

Thanks guys for the comments. It seems to be a gray area.

However I have many a route I don,t use or wont, (retail routes and add ons and freeware.)
There must be a way, a small postage fee is all that is needed for the freeware. I see no reason that Retail Routes cannot be sold, after all there are many a second hand shop selling retail products. Also my local paper advertises many a secondhand item.

Further comments please. (Don,t give up) (Lets have a thread UKTS)

We used to have a "for sale" thread, but it hardly got used, hence the reason it not around anymore.

I know this has nothing to do with " for sale " but I have always thought we could do with an information library....you know drawings, livery and pics to help with routes and models. Like many other I have collected a number of books and drawings which I would be glad to share.

I have always thought similarly, I have a large collection (very large as some of you know) of drawings and a large collection of reference photographs and sound recordings. I have always offered them to people.
