I see that the latest AVG definitions are detecting the ConBuilder 2.343 installer as a generic trojan. I'm getting sick of AVG and its false positives.

i have AVG and conbuilder and AVG didnt throw up anything

The application itself is fine, just the installer.

Not being funny, but if you are sick of "AVG and its false positives" dont use it and try something else.

That's true, though I'm debating what I could use. Norton and McAfee are too slow.

Hi.

Can you use Spy-bot instead of Norton? Does it do the same job?

I am using Norton, and i am sure it is affecting the performance of my pc, which in turn is affecting MSTS.

No !!! absolutely not. Spybot is for removing and stopping spyware. It does not do anti-virus scanning etc. that the Norton Suite does.

Every PC I have had the "pleasure" of looking at that had Norton installed has exhibited lower performance than expected. My own recommendation would be the Kerio firewall (although I am not sure that is available anymore) CA Etrust and Spybot. If the Kerio firewall is not available then Zonealarm Pro (not the free version) is the next best in my opinion.

No problem Spybot is very good at what it does but I also use Adaware and the built in Zonelarm Pro facilities as well. For the machines that I get to fix for people then the zero cost option is to load AVG, Spybot and Zonealarm free edition. And don't forget . for tidying up after the other programs.

I am somewhat fortunate that I benefit from my employer's home use licensing for CA Etrust.

I have managed to find Kerio, but it says that after 30 days you lose some of the features from the free version, but it doesn't say what.

I have also found one called Comodo. This one seems really good, but i can't help but get the feeling that this one may be just as unhealthy for my pc's performance as Norton.

Should i give Kerio a try? I do not want to ditch Norton and then find that it does not want to play!

I have had AVG free with all versions of Conbuilder and it has never thrown up a false positive. Unlike Avast which threw them up all the time.

For malware, AVG now have a free program, 'ewido anti-spyware' which also works very well.

Well ive always used Norton AV (not the Internet Security Version which ive never tried) and the free version of Zone Alarm and never had any problems with speeds, except when it does its live updates when you must expect it to be a bit slower for a few minutes. Personally ive always had my doubts about AVG. Ive known quite a few people get infections on their PC's when they swear the virus signatures were up to date.

Been running Norton Internet Security for a few years now and Never had any problems

You need some sort of Internet Security suite if your on the net

I hate Norton, always had bad experiences with it on peoples machines but then I think the problem is more Symantec - I used to use norton's stuff many moons ago back in DOS days but I have always disliked and/or got on poorly with Symantec - so when they bought Norton, it was obvious where that was going

My AVG Pro has never let me down though.
