evening all
i have finally managed to get a passable(ish) 'glow' beneath the ash pan using oil lamps placed in the relevent area but in order to get an effect that works at all angles ( at the moment it is invisible from a direct side on view) i need to be able to change the orentation of an oil lamp so that it points from the side of the loco instead of forward can i do this in the eng file?
Also when inside the eng file can the brightness of the lamp be changed?

oh and one more thing how do i place pics in my posts?

many thanks
Dan

To put pics in your posts they have to be uploaded to a website first (eg the Atomic Albums) then add a link to them in your post.

Check out the TechDocs on CD1 of MSTS for the intricacies of the .eng file for placing and controlling lights, etc. The angle, size, colour and brightness can all be controlled, along with making them flash or flicker.

thanks for the advice ianm42
i am now spending much time fiddling with lights and have nearly finished my first attempt, will put some pics up when it is finished.
i could upload the modified eng file but i presume i will need permission from the designer of the BR compound (dave bran i belive) before i do so (being his loco and all :) ) if this is the case i humbly seek permission to do so

many thanks,
dan

Go back into Atomic Albums, find your pic and press the 'i' button for information. It will give some bits of text in square brackets to cut and paste into your post message to display the pic in here directly :)

Ask for testers to try it out and give you feedback is the way most people do it. You could probably specify two lamp glows on the track angled slightly to the sides and sitting low down almost between the rails. As I said I mesed about with this a while back but gave up as I had better things to do!

The angles and colours / transparency of all lights is given in the tech docs section of the MSTS CD - How_To_Specify_Lights the document is called.
