ECE frame rates
Is it just me or does anyone else have problems with frame rates on East Coast Express. Even with the display settings on minimum I'm lucky to get into double figures even on the country parts of the route. I expected it to be a bit slow around Kings Cross but nothing like this, even LSE doesn't give me this much trouble. As a comparison I can run West Coastway at medium settings quite happily at 18-20 fps, and routes like Cambrian at almost maximum.
Nope, not a problem. Only place I've ever suffered in frame rates is the few miles around Finsbury Park. Even then it's only a dip in frame rates and nothing for me to be concerned about.

My Frame rates gets quite low near Grove Park and Hither Green on the LSE route. I'm lucky to get above 11 FPS and that’s only in explore mode with settings turned down. I would be very interested to know what frame rates you guys get around that area in explore mode?

I've recently abandoned LSE as it was becoming more and more unstable, locking up or crashing to desktop but 11fps around Hither Green was about what I was getting with settings one notch up from minimum. I didn't have any problems at Grove Park though. It was down to 5fps across London Bridge! It's very difficult to make comparisons on MSTS as what appear to be comparable routes can give very different performances. As an example I can run Cambrian Coast at almost maximum settings and get 25-30 fps everywhere except Pwllheli station, West Somerset on the other hand, which you might think would perform similarly needs settings to minimum to get into double figures at all.

Hi
I would agree ECE seems surprisingly sluggish.....I think its the amount of trees, which I think are separate objects.
The problem is people now expect highly detailed routes....which look brilliant.
Unfortunately MSTS cannot run them properly.
Heavily populated, multi-track routes are always going to struggle.
I haven't got WSR...but I believe there are patches available that makes it more playable.
Cheers

Yes frame rates do dip around Blue Anchor and coming into Minehead on WSR route but the rest of the route I get excellent frame rates with settings just below maximum in explore, I set the visibility very low. I've received the Glacier - Express, frame rates are terrible at Chur, the highest I can get is 10fps in explore mode.

Even on my old machine, I never had any problems on WSR at all and LSE works like a dream on my new machine.
In fact the only time I've had to lower settings was for Dorset Coast.

TC, GWR, SVR, ECE, Steyning, DC3 , LTSR etc are all pushing MSTS to its limit and beyond. Not that I'm complaining, I have all these routes except DC3. It seems that 'we' expect every new route to be more detailed than the last with frame rates in the 50s. But, let's face it, it ain't gonna be.

Yes I suppose we do expect a lot from what is an old and not always stable program and individual route builders will of course write their routes to suit their particular requirements and system capabilities. It would be nice however if you could get some idea of possible performance on commercially produced routes. It's very dissapointing to spend around £20 only to find that you have a route which is virtually unplayable. These routes are after all sold as MSTS add ons.
On a happier note I recently downloaded Glasgow-Carlisle and was pleasantly surprised at how well this performs through the urban scenery.
