slow moving AI traffic

Post by david1 »

does anyone kwow why AI trains travel slower than there maxium speed or line speed or is this just a problem with MSTS? or is there a way of making them run at full line speed

As i have found that most AI train only travel at around 70% of line speed, which means that i can not follow a simliar train to the one i am driving. some trains travel very slow i had a class 314 travelling at around 20mph on the Glasgow to Motherwell section of Glasgow / Carlisle route although the train was set at 100%

Firstly they have a performance rating in the service editor which is set to 75% as default. You can increase this to 100% for faster performance or lower for slower performance.

Secondly, if its a passenger service there is an additional performance setting within the timetable, which again defaults to 75%. You can change this setting so a service can run faster between some stops and slower between others.

One other factor to consider is the track speed at your AI starting location. Its quite common for people to set a start point in a siding which might have a 15mph speed limit. The AI train will continue to run at that speed until it passes a higher speed limit on the mainline. Some routes dont have regular speed limits and so your AI services can run for miles at 15mph. The answer is to change the start point to a faster section of line.

You might also need to check the eng file of the loco concerned since some have a maximum speed setting, although im not sure if AI locos take any notice of that. You could try increasing it though.
