wrong spelling of railway!

Post by poodles »

I noticed this morning on the uktrainsim front page that there is a new "RNAD Van" for the "Lynton and Barnstable Railway".

I must just point out a small spelling mistake that there should be a 'p' before the 'l', and not a 'b'...i.e. Barnstaple...although because of the stupid English language that we have, when we say the name of the town it sounds as if it should be a 'b'!

Sorry to be a bit pinnickity...just doing my bit for North Devon lol!

Case of the pot calling the kettle black. Should not pinnickity read pernickety?

and also wouldn't a quick PM to the uploader have been better than advertising his spelling mistake here for all to see.

Which leads me to ask "why does MSTS spell "adhesion" as "adheasion" in the .eng files? It does not appear as an alternative (American?) spelling in any of my dictionaries.

This was explained in a Dilbert cartoon long ago: "I put a mistake into the dictionary of our new software - what should we do about it?" - "Let's make it a new industry standard!"

At least you need not pay royalties to Microsoft everytime you write "adheasion" - they have not patented it yet.

Now stop it, children;

Mistakes happen, and with the best will in the world, some of them escape. I agree, a polite PM or email would have been the best way to deal with the L&B one, but is it really that serious?

As for the Microsoft one, several someones somewhere at either MS or Kuju couldn't spell - and that one escaped in a big way. We live with it, we don't bombard MS with emails about it (not that they'd take any notice).

Chill, take it easy, and enjoy the trains - let the newspapers argue over education.

Yes a PM would have been a lot better I realise. At least it's great to see files for the long-gone Lynton and Barnstaple Railway! I'm sorry for causing offense to everyone. (and for the wrong spelling of pernickety!)

Kev's a long time mate of mine and I'll pass on his catastrophic error.

Seen Barnstable many times along with Bridgewater.

West Country people want to learn to make up easier place names :D

Someone may wish to mention the excellence of the model.

Only JB mentioned the previous ones including Lyn.

I'm biased and could not possibly do so :D

Cheers

I've only just noticed this topic. Does look as if I have mispelt Barnstaple!

Should be easy enough to sort out.

Cheers,
Kevin
