Post by katew »

Might i ask (as a stupid blonde) what the gree 60 is all about. I know its real (seen it at shows) but whats it used for? is it a goods or passenger train?

Thanks

K8,

(Won't do any blonde jokes!)

It's a freight loco, can't remember exactly why it was painted green, the basic idea was to make look pseudo GWR I think.

It's used on normal freight services day in day out, but as its got a "special" livery it's often requested to appear at shows.

Cheers,

Andy.

Thanks Andy babe. It is hard to beleve that a loco like that would be used on goods. would love to see it covered in muck on a MGR train or something :)

Cheers Andy

The loco was painted by Toton depot for the EWS Old Oak Common open Weeked back in 2000. I think it had something to do with the fact that EWS wanted to present a link with Old Oaks Past and what better then a GWR Green engine? (and very nice it is to, as I have a model of it. 1 of the best £50 I ever spent).

Because of its Old Oak Common / Western Region links, it has been kidnapped and spends the vast majority of its time workingout of Acton Yard or venturing down to South Wales. It doesn't work anything but freight. And as yet, I have never seen it at Peterborough since it was repainted. Even the British Steel ones off of the Scunthorpe Iron Ore circuit actually got to Peterborough occasionally! :)

Weird. I have seen it at Old Oak Common, Cardiff Canton, Leicester Shed and Thornbay/Tees Yard. It seems to get around a bit, it was up our way in late April parked up outside Thornaby shed.

I knew it had had a spell out of Leicester on aggregates workings but didn't know it had gone further afield. Perhaps they are bored with it now!

Hi

The reason the Class 60 chosen was 60081 was because old oak's shed number is 81A

There ya go

Cheers! :D

Its was stabled around Warrington Arpley around Christmas 2001. It did quite a few MGR runs to Fiddlers Ferry during the summer of 2001 so this is the only time I have ever seen it.

Stupid blonde? When the pic appeared for the first time as your avatar, the doggy dog suffered palpitations!!! :D

Anyway, the fact you have just done so well in your training dispells that myth!
