As part of the xtracks installation process I've to run horace.

When running "horace" over a particular route, it comes back with the message that some of my dynamic tracks need to be converted to text using ffedit. Fair enough. Ffedit lives in ...train simulator/utilities.

Question: How do I run the program?
Question: Should I run the program over ...routes/route in question/tiles?

I anticipate the usual rapid and meaningful responses to these questions.

Hi Alan,

Your problem here is that if you uncompress the .W files and use them in uncompressed mode (or re-compress them after running Horace), then you are asking for problems. On some routes you will end up with buildings flying past you in the sky.

Therefore before you start, copy the .W files from the World directory of the route in question into a temporary folder, so that you can copy them back after you have run Horace (Horace does not touch the .W files, it only wants to read them to see what track you have).

Someone recently posted a batch file in a message here which gave the code for uncompressing the .W files (a search of the Archives for Horace should uncover it), or alternatively download Route-Riter from the utilities section here.

Run RR select your route and click on the Get .S files button. This will tell you it is uncompressing the .W files, then the .S files. At which point, quite Route-Riter. Go to the folder Route_Riter\Setupfiles and you will find it is full of .W and .S files - Select all the .W files and copy them back to your Route's World folder. Overwriting the ones which are there now.

Run Horace, then copy the compressed .W files back from wherever you stored them as above.
