MSTS Bin Question

Post by Retro »

Hi,
Sorry to start a new post but having looked at the massive post and threads with pictures which take ages to load up on dialup I still cannot understand what is needed to upgrade.
Having just taken ages to get MSTS working and installed with all my add on's, routes etc. on my New Media Centre PC I do not want to mess it up.
My questions
1. Will my normal cabviews still work with the patch or will I have to alter them all?
2. I am not the best at editing Eng. and other files !!!!. How difficult is it to modify what is needed to run this patch?
3. Will I have to modify my sound config files as there seems to be some confusion about sound in the rear cabs especially HST 125?
4. Are the required files to download large as I am only on dialup?
5. I keep reading about problems with camera views (Helicopter!!) what is all this about.

Thanks and Regards
James

1. Yes.
2. Fairly simple depending on how computer savvy you are, and if you remember to make back ups there's little of no risk.
3. No.
4. Not too bad, they'll be well worth it.
5. Not too sure. The only problem I've had is that if you go to one of the external views whilst in a tunnel you'll end up staring at the hill above the tunnel, but since you couldn't get any external view previously thats OK by me!

No to I.D. cards.

Not the soundcfg.dat but each loco's SOUND\*cab.sms file, the values in this section

Scalability ( 5
Activation ( ........... Distance ( .... )
Deactivation ( ...........Distance ( .... )

required to be increased.

I have set mine to 1000 to make sure it covers long US freight trains with helpers at their rear, their rear cabs being used to drive them in the opposite direction !
