One thing i found with msts its a old game we all know that, one thing that does slow it down is the spin speed of your Hard drive

Lets say you have a High specs pc but your hard drive runs at 7,200 rpm

Doesnt matter what speed your prosseror runs at or how much Ram you

Have ,your Hard drive can slow everthink down

Maybe Some of the New High speed SATA and SATAII 10,000 rpm hard drives coming out on the Market

May help speed thing up ????

Partyspiritz you said you have 4gb of Ram there is a way you can set up a new hard drive using your Ram "a Ramdisk"

Have a read of this http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=131

and this http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=54093

Hi there,

I can send missing instructions for activities starting with BCD2 by e-mail for any that have them missing if you leave me a message.

BCD2 activities were prepared on a 3yr old machine with an athlon2400 processor. 1.25g of memory and a 256mb fx6200 graphics card and a little 60gb hard drive.

switch all of the background stuff off like anti virus and any other programs as they all use bits of memory which you are going to need.

the settings in the options folder on msts used are:-

Sound - middle setting
Display 4th setting or 2/3rds across

Advance display

visibility - 1250
T E Threshold - 60
World object Density - 7
World object quality - 2
world object texture quality - 2
Train object quality - 3
Train object texture quality - 2

swich off :-

all shadow settings
distant mountains
specular lighting

hope this info is of help

Had a wee Quick Go with the above settings & The Sim Just froze at start Up the only keys that worked were the View Keys It was the Activity were are in Charge of 70000 & Express You are meant to start a speed But Instead It was just static with a waif of Steam in the Air Like a Screenie So It would seem I was getting Better Results with my settings at Max

Think I Will Give up on This One It seems Impossible Done a Short Burton to Derby Using a Train of coaches & a few Low Pol AI trains & it just Froze in the middle of Nowhere with the FPS rate Showing 21 , I feel that it is More trouble than its worth & I mean that in Sadness because I really love the feel of the Route & its really depicts the period that its set in.

This is a terrific route which runs OK (albeit with low FPS in some parts but no crashes) on an AMD 1Ghz/768Mb memory/40G hard drive.

Normally crashes come at a time when FPS drops low but to have a crash at 21FPS sounds really strange. I am sure the problem is in your system rather than the route.

Perhaps there are too many background tasks running, or perhaps a background program starts up while you are running MSTS.

Have you had a look at Windows Task Manager (Ctrl/Alt/Del), to see what else is using up your CPU and memory?

Are your hard drives regularly defragmented?

I hope there is a way to get this route working on your PC, because it is too good for you to miss out on.

I have Tried all of above & it still crashes NO Problem with any other Route Except the Ones that are renowned for having a demand on resources

Have you considered the sound issue?

Have a look at the csantucci post of Fri Jul-28-06 12:52 PM in this topic:

The modified soundcfg.dat file works wonders for me!

Pete

I had loads of crashes with this when I installed it over the top of version 1.

I have subsequently deleted the lot, and installed version 2 on its own.

May not apply to you, but this seemed to solve the problems for me.

No-one seems to have commented that the Consists folder contains all or most of the consists for the default routes.
