Unfortunately I have to agree. There's a recent thread on the other site that kind of proves it.markw wrote:I agree, Rob, we're not elitist or stuffy, and every American I have met personally (and I've met a few over the years) has been gracious and a delight to meet, which is more than can be said for some from this country. What's more they appreciate people taking time to explain things to them, particularly on railway journeys...
Why do we dislike trainsim.com... opps

Possibly the time of day you are trying to get in. When I have a day off and go in at 08.00 or 09.00 when all our American cousins are in the land of nod, it is pretty fast. It's a bonus that the UK internet is quietish at that time too.

As a brit married to an American i'd have to say that the only obnoxious Americans i've ever met have been in the US Military (I used to work near RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath), and i've met a bunch of obnoxious military Brits too, so I don't think americans are generally much different to brits or vice versa, it's just there's a whole load more of them.
Yes, they can be more in your face but I appreciate people being straightforward with me and now that i've grown used to the cultural differences I really don't see any more "problems" with american users than I do brits.
You mention a thread on train-sim.com where they complained about the premium arrangements on here, I'd just like to add that I get a lot of complaints from brits in my mailbox too demanding to know why they can't download xyz file they want and why have it on the site if they can't download it, and can I get it to them on a CD as that would at least make them happy.
I don't personally visit train-sim.com that often simply because I don't much like the layout and I have little to no interest in non british stuff (that's not me being stuffy, I just don't have the time to spend learning about all the worlds railways, maybe one day I can do that, I must admit MSTS has certainly sparked an interest). I don't have a problem with the users, I don't have a problem with Nels (though he did delete all the announcements from UKTS he had on the front page at one point without any reason, which I was a bit upset about) - I just don't have that many hours in the day.
I also can't stand the layout of their file library, but that's because im [b/p]ig headed about mine
Train-sim.com is much bigger than UKTS so the number of people visiting the forums is going to be far higher and going on from that so are the number of unpleasant folk, so it's easy to blow things out of proportion.
As far as access for downloads goes, Nels has a mechanism that he can afford, we have one we can afford, presumably he has a fixed cost link that is capped at a certain amount of "per second" bandwidth rather than our "per byte" costing, probably a T1 or something, which is extremely cheap in the US. If someone is prepared to put an E1 (european equivalent) in to my house i'll more than happily make free bandwidth constant throughout the day capped at the 2mbit per second of the E1
Matt.

Yep, he does have a T1. I rememember in the early days he was on the official fansite and said he had a T1....so that would explain the difference.NeutronIC wrote: As far as access for downloads goes, Nels has a mechanism that he can afford, we have one we can afford, presumably he has a fixed cost link that is capped at a certain amount of "per second" bandwidth rather than our "per byte" costing, probably a T1 or something, which is extremely cheap in the US. But as you say the US folk are wired up for T1/broadband big time. Most medium size firms have several T1 links going in. So it's back to the same argument....

hmm, i've just today sent a mail to him asking if he could post an announcement about NWTVR moving to UKTS servers, will be interesting to see if he puts that up then!NeutronIC wrote:I don't have a problem with Nels (though he did delete all the announcements from UKTS he had on the front page at one point without any reason, which I was a bit upset about.

Well, I take it all back...you think *we* get excited.
This is the 'Big boy thread' over on 'the other side'...
The 'big boy' was the largest locomotive ever built (I think) and probably one of the most difficult to construct in MSTS...I am in nothing but awe..
Some people though...

All the files I've downloaded recently, from T-S.com,have been pretty fast.
Their site is now more diciplined.Anybody starting an argument gets a warning or the "boot".(somebody from this site?)Majority of posters seem to like new style.
Convenient time for me downloading is 0600-0800Bst.Don't all copy,I won't get in!

He heheee, can you imagine Matt using polite sentence construction and well reasoned arguments to calm that lot down? I think not.
