They be virgin mk2's!!!
Yeah its 47840 "North Star" in that odd bluey green colour with gorgeous yellow window surrounds.
(its next on mi repaint list btw
It works the Manchester to Bristol Service at 1115 from Picaddily.
Then turns around at Temple Meads to become the 1535 Bristol to Edinburgh service. It uncouples at Preston and the service is hauled by a 86 the rest of the way.
I catch the 1535 when i return from my Girlfriends and i got to bristol a bit early last time (bout 2ish) so spent my time watching them uncouple the loco and run it round the front.
Splendid repaint i must say
I did read something about Virgin repainting some class 47's in the old fasioned colours. I wonder if there are any more?
Cheers
Guy
PS Cadet that 153 has stalled untill i get some decent pics of one from Preston. Any ideas what FNW services are 153's?

Get them while you can - all the virgin XC routes go 'plastic' (Vermin Voyager) as of august 18th. Toton depot has done a number of repaints on virgins Class 47 fleet to mark the end of such loco haulage. The ones done were 47840 (The original North Star) back to BR Blue, 47826 Springburn in InterCity Swallow Livery, 47847 in BR Large Logo Blue, 47851 in Original Green, 47853 in XP64 (The original Experimental Blue colour). There is also 47829 in the BT 'Police' traffic car livery. There is of course still the Virgin coloured ones so quite a variety available for the next 6 weeks! I think Virgin should be praised for allowing the repaints of loco's that have such a limited shelf life which after all is only really for the benefit of staff and enthusiasts

i stand corrected
as for the 153 services i'm not too sure. i know that some of the manchester-oldham-rochdale services in the later part of some evenings use 153's and i guess that some of the rochdale-manchester-southport/liverpool services which normally use 142's would use 153's too. i saw 1 or 2 dotted about at newton heath this morning and i also saw my 1st 2 voyagers at piccadilly, lovely. for once i have managed to completely avoid travelling on a 142 today, roch-man vic (158) man picc-man apt (175) man apt-man picc (156) man vic-roch (155) all in all not bad

Am I right in saying that will be pretty much the end of loco-hauled (push-pull doesn't count!) in the UK on 18th August. Panic! There will be bashers and spotters hanging up their notepads in droves!basildd wrote:Get them while you can - all the virgin XC routes go 'plastic' (Vermin Voyager) as of august 18th. Yeah, it's the end of an era! Knew it had to come sooner or later...well, at least we still have the old HST 125's, when they go, that is when railways as i know them die...at least the 47's lasted this long, it could have been worse, much worse...
Romance! The season tickets mourn,
HE never ran to catch his train,
but passed with coach and guard and horn,
and left the local, late again!
Confound Romance, and all unseen,
Romance brought up the 9:15!

There will still be 'pockets of resistance' - North Wales will be using a 47 and stock for a couple of diagrams and there is a possibility of other isolated workings - 31's to Weymouth for 6 weeks, the temporary HST replacement set out of St Pancras, that sort of thing. But apart from hired loco's for ruggex's and that sort of thing, that will be pretty much it!goingnorth wrote:

153's? See Morecambe - Lancaster. Especially during the busiest times of the day. the 08:01 (Probably the busiest train of the day.. and i should know) is always one, and then the after work trains are 153's as well. However later on at around 9pm, they put huge trains on for arounf 4 people!

Hi Basildd when you wrote the number 58 you put it in brackets. Thus making the smily face with sun glasses 8 ) if you miss the space out between the 8 and the bracket ) you get the default smily
I found this out relating to the same thing because i put 58 in brackets not long back. Hope this makes sense. Had me scratching my head for a while
Regards Tim
