Don't panic yet. Try later, maybe your ISP is having problems.

You have probably set the ntl account up to connect using an SSL for your user name and password, go into the properties of that mai laccount and uncheck the use ssl box on your incoming mail section, it shoudl then work...unless it is meant to use ssl in which case their ssl is down

Pete

I've got AOL and a tinyworld account (now Tiscali) and the two don't get on. I can receive my tinyworld email using Outlook Express while online with AOL, but I can't send. To send anything, I have to dial up my old pay per minute number. This might not help, but I do get a very similar error message to you.

Yes peter,

When I installed NTL Broadband, correct connect was a programme that installed from the set up cd, on my computer it sits on the bottom right tool bar, it's used to maintain, repair, and test the system, it takes a snap shot of all your settings once a week, you can then restore them if you get a problem, the other thing to try if you are connected to your set top box, Turn it off at the mains, wait a short while and then turn back on and restart the computer, this has worked in the past.

It's a server based error, don't worry about it. A few of my domains at a webhost sometimes do that, and when it happens I contact them, and they say there's a problem with the POP3 server and get it fixed. Usually if you leave it for a short while they/it fixes itself :)

Hi Peter, I have been having this problem myself with my BT account.

I was going to send you an e-mail about fixing it, but if you couldn't recieve.... :-?

I see you have got it fixed so all is well.

I have found that when this happen, I have to go to my Outlook Express/Properties box & refiddle with the server information. First time it happened it was like I'd had an arm chopped off, but with a liitle application all is well again

For rock solid email use the Webmail option at

http://www.ntlworld.com/framedContent/c ... tm?webmail

You can do this from anywhere on any ISP (or internet cafe PC)

Outlook Express is just a great big gaping security hole onto your PC for virus attack anyway!
