Re-Installing

Post by salopiangrowler »

Hi

Im currently going through a slow a painful process of reinstalling MSTS and everything!! that's on it. I've currently zipped up over 4.5Gb worth of Train's and im only half way through the one's starting with D.

Then there's a 24Gb route Folder  .

So for the next week or so im gonna be a busy boy. Just glad i never lost everything this time round.

Activity Creation has been Suspended till mid July at the earliest.

I usually re-install train simulator on average twice a year , because of some error!! and i start from scratch..everything !! My last reinstall was just 3 weeks ago, caused by me ....i brought "Peak power" then downloaded the cabview update to my desktop.. secondly i downloaded all the routes and there updates [for the activities] .....next i went for something to eat ..drank a bottle of red wine....i thought i had already downloaded "Peak power" from the cd onto my computer ..however i was wrong ..so before installing this "peakpower cd" i, by mistake installed the cabview update...that did it!! Trainsim crashed every time . There was a warning given with this cabview update that things would go wrong if you uploaded it before the cd..so be carefull!! Im now starting from scratch , with the "KUJU" Class 50 etc ..i need to find everything again..cabs/ common cabs/ sound files/ locos :-? but the routes are ok as i have them all on cd anyhow.

All you needed to do was to move the common.cab folder from the trainset folder and install the CD.
Then move the common.cab folder back.
the cabview folder would have overwritten the CD version and updated it.

There is very rarely any need to reinstall MSTS.
All your problems are in the Routes, Consists and Trainset folders.

Just move the most recent files til the sim works and put them back one at a time until you find the trouble maker.
