Is anyone else creating activities for the GNEReastocast??!!
The very excellent GNEReastcoast has been out for a few months now. I've said this before, but I'm still surprised(amazed in fact) that no one else apart from me and Simuk have created any activiities for it!! How come? I thought there would have been at least 20/30 activities available for it by now!! Are you all waiting until the route is fully completed before uploading your activities?
I think despite the route so far only having one visible station(New Southgate), the activities are still enjoyable to play - but of course will be somewhat better when the stations are actually in place.
I'm sure we'd all like to see a good few more activites available for upload for it. I've created 4(or is it 5?) activities for it so far, most of mine being real timetabled scheduled passenger runs. However, I'm not very experienced at creating freight activities and special scenario passenger runs. Be good to see a number of those uploaded for it.
By the way, I'm currently creating yet another activity for the route. Again, it will be a real timetabled passenger service but with many trains being 'all over the place'(running late) due to an as yet undecided scenario so this will affect your journey somewhat. It will require the Euro Loco Pack and you'll be driving a superb IRM Regiorunner train.

I'm considering one based on the first driver turn of the Flying Scotsman as operated by GNER these days, i.e. using James Hunt's class 91 - the problem is a huge amount of AI traffic with different trains (from WAGN to GBrf to Arriva) would be needed so would people mind having to download a ton of stuff?
Mind you might have a play about this week and see what I can do.

Well....this weekend, after a long gestation period (GET ON WITH IT!)
I have finished a, nearly, 3 hour Class 58 hauled railtour, in celebration of the imminant demise of these loco's from EWS's fleet.
It runs from Kings Cross to York, does have looping that does not require reversing, it also has the full GNER timetable south of York, and lots of realistic London Inner & Outer Suburban traffic.
The only problem, and it is the biggest, I have only found out today, is that the activity packer in AE won't pack correctly. It packs/unpack, but when you click on the .apk wotsit it unloads about half a dozen files then says 'Expected more files. Corrupt packaging" or something similar. I have re insralled MSTS today to try and fix it, which I don't do lightly cos of all the fixes & alterations ( I have made a list) that I then have to do afterwards.
I have tried packaging activities from other routes and they unpack OK with no problems. I have tried another activity on the GNER route and this too fails to unpack, so all in all I am seriouslt pissed off, pardon my franch!
So you are not going to get part 1 let alone part 2.
I had thought that the sheer volme of AI trains may have been to blame but even if you just try it with a player train only this very unhelpful box appears telling me it expected more files....I know so was I
Any suggestions of a cure WOULD be gratefully recieved as this is one actibity I was looking at sharing with you.

Deltic Bob, I think I have the answer. I experienced the very same problem as you a while ago and it had me tearing my hair out in frustration.
What you need to do is dead simple. Go into your Train Simulator/Routes folder. Rename the 'eastcoast' folder 'eastcoast1'. Go back into the RE, load your activity up and resave it.
You should(hopefully) now be able to use your activity. Hope this works. And looking forward to your activity!

When this route is finished, I shall write dozens of activities for it, but not until then. I agree that it will be a good route, but as I've written elsewhere on this forum, a good route requires more than miles of track. I'm currently writing activities for Tim's fictional ecml, Pat's S&C 1930, the Talyllyn, Far North, Albula, Protrain 1, Protrain 2, Arlberg and Murgtalbahn, all of which are far better than GNEREastCoast in its current state.
I hope that this doesn't offend anyone.

To Deltic2002, thanks for the tip, I will try it in a while. Let hope so/
To MartinH, I do understand your dilema, but when someone has gone to all the time and effort to create such a route, even in its unfinished state, by not using it & creating activities for it anrn't you giving that routes builder the effort you are not bothered?
We knoe the stations are not there. I know poor old Doncaster ( I am in Donny), is just a big joid 32 miles south of York, but hay, it IS work in progress. Like everything else in MSTS is is an illusion & you use your memory to fill out the blanks.
Bob.

I suppose my point is that I have a hard disk full of excellent routes, but not enough time to write activities for them all. Rather than writing one activity for each, I'm concentrating on a few to start with. You'll have noticed that I didn't mention Caldervale, Woodhead or Stranraer - all good routes, but still sitting on the bench (excuse the football metaphor).

I'll be back with more activities for GNEReastcoast soon. First I want to work on my Cross City route so it's at an "all track complete" level, and get the Huntingdon station finished, and then I'm going to do activities with many many more trains, including the 60's, more ews wagons in the yards, and more trains around the york area, plus the Anglia 170, etc.

Both routes are available from http://www.thetrain.de.
Arlbergbahn2 is an electrified version of the Innsbruck-St.Anton route that comes with the game. It installs as a separate route.
The MurtalBahn is actually uploaded under the name "Schwarzwald" (Black Forest) as this is where the route is located. You need to download 2 parts to intall the latest version of the route (look for Teil 1 and Teil 2). There is also a separate download called Bahnhofsnamen, which you can run later to add the correct station sign boads.
I have written activities for both routes, but don't intend to upload them until I've got some of my others out of the way. I've got one more Albula one to finish, 3 more S&C 1930s (then I'll probably wait for the new version of the route), a few more southern activities for ECML 3.1 and, one day, the remainder of my Far North activities.

Yes Martin, I take your point. Only so may hours etc... there have to be winners & losers don't there.
Deltic2002, I have tried your tip regarding renaming the 'eastcoast' route file as eastcoast1' and the pack/unpack function now works well.
I have now made a start on the Class 58 activity, part deux, so I must crack on.
Though, won't everyone else have to rename there folders likewise?
