How do you open the ENG file when it`s not visible

Post by pendoboy »

Hi

Iwant to change the sound & cab on a loco. This I know how to do by changing the ENG file.

However if the ENG file isn`t visible is there an easy way to get in to it?

What I`ve been doing is deleting the cab view(backing up first) then using that loco in a short test run. I then get the no cab view error message.

I then find the ENG file has appeared and I can edit it.

There must be an easier way!

If this is a stupid question I appologise.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to answer...

Are you using TrainStore?

If so, unstoring the loco in question will put the .eng file back. You can either unstore a route that uses the engine or unstore everything.

Many thanks.

Or you could go into c:/trainstore/trains/ etc and find it there. It saves a lot of shuffling about.

In Trainstore Classic view select Maintenance Mode.

Then select Stock, then View All Stock Items.

This will bring up a dialogue box listing all available stock.

If the item you want is not visible select In Store in the status drop down list at the bottom.

Once you have found the item you are looking for right click on it and select immediate unstore. You can select more than one item by holding down the Ctrl key.

Hey presto the eng file is now unstored and will appear in your trainset folder!

Good luck, but believe me, it's easier than it sounds!

One other point. A loco without a cabview becomes an AI loco and will not appear on the menu of locos available within the sim. Is this perhaps you problem?

Is that true? Ive got a couple of locos for which i cant be bothered to set up cabviews, but i can still drive them. But that is in activities, which is probably different to explore route.

Thanks for the replies.

I`ve found the way suggested by `Driver Mike` works easiest for me.

This might help you aswell, what i do is open the train store folder then locate the Trains folder, open it up and find the loco needed, right click cut on it then paste into MSTS Trains folder! I do this if i want to build a consist with MSTS Editor and Tools.
