Just what kind of computer do you need to run the superb Dorset coast route with all the display options maxed out ?
I ask this because I find that even with a fairly high spec system, I have to turn things well down to get the route to run without crashing out, but therefore miss out on lots of the splendid scenery. I have found that by saving an activity in an interesting location, then reloading it after maxing out my display options gives me a few brief minutes in a world I had hardly deamed existed !
I guess that my question is really "How long is a piece of string ?", but nevertheless I would be interested to hear of anyone who has a setup that will run Dorset at or close to maximum possible display options !

Hi Geoff
This comes up as regular as clockwork.
I suspect that if you got the fastest retail PC in the world (about £2800)...it might still struggle in places.
The MSTS game engine was 4 year old when it was released 5 years ago...it just wasn't designed with DC in mind.
One thing that helps is turning off the ambient sounds (medium setting for Laurie), as msts uses 'wav' file format...and these really eat into your RAM.
My spec is still (32 months old)
2500+ Barton AMD ( over clocked running at 2.01Ghz)
1024 Mb RAM
Strip RAID 7200rpm HDs
128Mb FX5200 Nvidia.(Yes I need a new card)
Cheers
Jon

Dorset computer
This route plays ok on a Compaq presario SR1710An with a nvidea 6600GT video card and 1.25 gigs of ram added one of the cheapest on the market..
fx5200
my old presario had a geforce FX5200 card and it played the dorset pretty good, i expected better when I bought the newer computer
(above) especially with the pci EXPRESS 6600 card but its not much better.. but does play out of Waterloo at 12 frames per sec and 5fps through clapham.. with no other traffic

Re: fx5200
I personally wouldn't worry too much about not having the right spec, what Jon says above sums the situation up.jetgriff wrote:my old presario had a geforce FX5200 card and it played the dorset pretty good, i expected better when I bought the newer computer

And his screenshots are top notch (crawl). My new box has a graphics card that retails at over £300 and I still get stuttering in places.
Think we'll all have to wait and see how the new sim from Kuju shapes up.
Chris.
picture through Clapham
Just posted apicture of train through clapham as can be seen its running ok at 4 frames per second (bottom right). after this it jumps up to 19fps
