New begining or just another false hope? Are things really going to get better under the not for profit 'Newtrack' or is the structure so wrong that the railways will never improve?

I very much doubt it, the system is so absurd it'd tak an act of god to put it right! Our system will get worse and worse until it stops, and then, as Britain grinds to a halt, the imbecile we call a Prime Minister with the 70 000 megawatt smile will say 'Oh, well, i'm...sure itwill...get...better...soonerorlater'(accompanied by much hand waving) This is the end, our rail system has been so misused and undermaintained that it can't be repaired, it's an impossible task...it can't be done, Britains railways are finished, i give then 10 years at the most.

Well after reading in rail over the last month about the things the SRA are proposing (Sod all really). I say all hope is lost. I voted maybe because I like to think some hope is left.

'Well, we're not going to electrify. We can't see that linespeeds are going over 125 mph for 30 years or more. We need an HST2. Oh, and the Voyagers are . over long distances. Plus we are not going to re-open much.'

Look, I know I said the 1970s were . but really they were better than they are now, at least for the railways. What an amazing waste of money.

They are not too sure about the new North-south LGV line. 'We are doing lots of studies..........'. Can't really see that happening....

Also I kept reading about 'business cases'. It's a flippin social service, part of the fabric of the nation!!! Has Labour actually done anything useful?

I've got one thing to say.....Jobs for the boys!

as i'm 15 i have only ever seen a run down railway and in my opinion a non-profit compnny is the best thing we could have hoped for execpt re-nationalisation

The only thing I want to know is, if it makes a profit it pumps money back into the railways, then what happens if it makes a loss? will the taxpayers bail it out. I don't think taxpayers will like that.

basically!

england needs a radical lefty like ralph nader to come a long and at least wake everyone up. shame it didn't work just yet in the US, but at least it'd give us an alternative and make me bother to vote...

Scotrail is one of the best performers timewise etc.especially in Glasgow
area.Scotrail runs the services on behalf of SPT.The "Red"socialist
Glasgow transport authority already owned £39M rolling stock, prior to "Privatisation"plus granted very heavy yearly subsidies,to enable integrated services.
At the time of privatisation they said "run it our way,or we take our trains back(buy them back off us),and we'll stop the subs too"or to that effect.
It was an offer not to be refused, and as a result, the rail system has been
spared some of the antics south of the border.
