Hi Fodda,

 yes I noticed that right after I hit send! BTW was it a regional thing or traffic type? It's all these little details that get the rivet counters worked up if you use them wrongly in an activity

Hi Geoff
Are you talking about the Orange safety line, which became compulsory in around 1983/4?
If you use any ETH Peaks on the ECML, you'll be critised....they mainly stayed on the MML.

Gotcha! Thanks.

Were any Peaks used on the Kings Cross routes and if not how about the more northerly branches and around Leeds and York?

I've got shed loads of reference from the steam era but not much from the BR blue era. I get the feeling that it was considered too boring at the time, but now of course like any era we're nostalgic about it.

Hi Geoff
Can I be a bit rude....(well you told me to sod off the other day  )
1. This thread is really about the new Peak donationware CD. Perhaps a seperate EastMids thread would be an idea.
2. Why not write activities around something your knowledgable about. As I do find on the whole, activities written by people who know their subject much better.

However a quick answer to the above would be any route, NE/SW etc, that was still using BR Mk1 steam heat stock could use a steam heat Peak.
Leeds certainly had Peaks at Holbeck.Others were based at Gateshead Newcastle. I think York had some at some time. (Most were Class 46s though)
Tinsley Sheffield, Toton Notts and Cricklewood London of course.
Thats why as a child I was so exceited to see a Peak '31', my first ever, in Lincoln. The year would have been 1973.
The MML wanted HSTs but there wasn't money, so they very expensively added ETH to some of the Peaks, which then pulled MK2 aircon stock.
These mainly terminated at Sheffield.
The steam heat versions also worked a lot of freight, as more MK2 stock took over.
I do remember the occasional Gateshead Class 46 powering through Newark Nth Gate on presumably London-Newcastle type expresses.
I did a few screenshots a while back

Thanks for the intelligence Jon. Very useful

You're right it is about the donationware CD and unfortunately Mid Est Plus will not be finished before the CD is ready. The point is that part of the attraction of the CD is the activities included. Activities for more routes might help both the CD and the route?

As far as doing what I know. The whole point at the moment is to explore what would be prototypical in areas and eras that I don't know. Not just in Peaks but all possible stock.

I spent all of my life in London. The first 22 years in East London and the last 37 in West London. Rails North are all just something I've read about. Rails East West and South I've some experience and first hand knowledge of.

For Information Mid East plus is moving towards beta 2 and it will offer even more scope than Tims original, especially for regional variations.

BTW nice shots of the 40.

I seem to remember (vaguely) seeing an article in one of my 1962 copies of Railway Magazine which dealt with Peaks on the ECML. I'll have a look later and if I've remembered correctly, I'll scan it in.

Yes, I have complete Railway Magazine for 1962... Since MSTS was released I've been suckered into this railfan malarkey...

Hi Geoff
No you're right....my mistake  ...I hadn't thought of that.
I've actually spent a few hours thrashing Peaks on the Mid East myself. :P
Perhaps some MidEast2 Peak activities will be done once the route is out.
One thing that really needs adding is the KX refueling point....as I'm sure you're aware.
Cheers

DOH! No... I've not.

I've got all kinds of information on Peaks on the GWML, the Settle and Carlisle, Scotland... But not the ECML.

However there's a ton of info all about Deltics, A4s and A1s up and down the ECML.

Suppose I'd better go and finish off this 44 cabview then so's the CD can be released...
