At one time, I think it was Tim Booth who had patched train.exe files which would point to different Trains folders, e.g. Traina for diesel, Trainb for electric etc. This got over the limits in consists etc. There are a few other links in the train.exe which can be changed with a decent hex editor. I had this working fine for a while, but deleted them once I started using mini-routes instead.

It should be noted that altering the .exe file is not allowed in the EULA under the limitations of reverse engineering etc.

Hi
That doesn't worry too much....as I think MS relinquished MSTS about 18 months ago....unless Atari get upset.
What I have found this afternoon is a couple of front coupling crashes, total lockup on WinXP.
Plus total waste of time writing to Bill message.
Unfortunately it seems it will only patch 1.2 (1.4) Train.exe (3997Kb).
Where as I prefer 1.3 (1.4) Train.exe (4764Kb), which doesn't write to Bill and crash WinXP...just closes very quickly.
Anyone else had a play yet?
Cheers
Jon

Had a quick play with the basics, using the rear cab. Works a treat, except for some front coupler problems and crashing as Jon says. However, gives you much more freedom being able to drive from both ends, especially for dual direction running activities. Now you can get to your destination, run round the stock, and return back the other way. A great improvement :D

Hi
The patch , some stock and cabviews are available on the German site.

http://www.zugsimulator.de/new/_cms/ind ... ion=dlarea

"The well known E10 from WupperExpress in actual DB-Colours, Day-/Nightcabview and Sound already included. Doesn't work without the unoffical Update"

"Blackman & Giovanni
Combined Day-/Nightcabviw for BR 141 - includes full animated backward cabview. Requires inoffical MSTS Patch 1.5.4 - for 141 from virtual-train simply exchange the cabview-folder. "

"CD-Loco Class 363 with Cab and Sound. New Features of inoffical MSTS-Update 1.5.4 already included - doesn't work with older Versions of MSTS. "

There's also a video of the new features

"Video over the new Features "

No problems so far, lighting not attempted.
The above is the player in Northbound Express, which I uncoupled to demostrate the loco backing up with reverse cab, the odd thing is after recoupling the passenger view was still enabled,

Kindest regards

Hi
I'd be interested in hearing from any one who has a different 'Train.exe'
or if they know where it could be downloaded.

The patch works on 1.2 (1.4) Train.exe (3997Kb).
Where as I prefer 1.3 (1.4) Train.exe (4764Kb)
For reasons stated above.

How do locos with the rear cab modifications to the .eng file, and the "night" folder added, work in sims that have not had the modification made to the train.exe file?

Hi David
They cause an error....as they have too many entries in the cvf file.
Cheers
Jon

PS This is something to note if you download my Class 31 re-skins,when they're approved, they will cause errors in a non modified msts.

Hi ,

Some indication to modify lights with new patch , if you want ....

In engine file , in light lines

- in section concerning red lights in front , write :
Unit ( 4 )
- in section concerning white light in rear position , write
Unit ( 5 )

That's all . Don't modify any else line units.
When you go in the rear cab , lights changes also ....

It's good , no ?

I've never heard of version 1.3 Jon, is that the version on the Atari branded release? I was under the impression that 1.2 was the latest official version available (via an official patch from MS or on the later MS release).

Hi Paul
If you right click the train.exe and ask for properties it will proberbly say 1.4.
Thats why you really need to look at the size of the exe file in Kb.
Mine came from the last MS Cd which included the Class50, has always needed the CD in the drive, and seems to not like above 500 consists.
Unfortunately I have not managed to front couple with a patched version of the earlier file.
Hence my question.
Cheers
