G'day there, all...

I logged on to the Train-Sim.com site a short while back and found some activities for the Ballyshannon route - which I'd never heard of before, but from the name, I'd assume it's an Irish route.

No trace of it on Train-Sim.com, so came here and searched and only found more activities, but no route.

Am I to assume that this is yet another payware route ? And if so, the persons uploading the activities certainly do seem to go out of their way to NOT mention this simple fact, which would definitely save some folks a lot of wasted time searching for this route, only to find it's payware. A little consideration would not go astray, I assure you !

Could I please have some details about this route if someone is willing to give a little of his / her time to tell me about it ? Thanks in advance for any help offered. Cheers.

The Ballyshannon route is one of the UKTS £4.50 community CDs available from the CD ordering page. Unfortunately it is temporary withdrawn and should be back soon.

Well, that cerainly solves the mystery I guess. Payware... and nobody thought to mention this simple fact. It would help tremendously if those in the who create these routes, and are in the country of origin of this particular route, could consider that perhaps persons outside the country, and further afaield, may not know any details about this route, and, because it's not mentioned in the activity, might think it's freeware, as I did. and wasted time hunting for it. A little courtesy goes a long way in cases like this.

Any idea as to how big the route is on the CD ? And why is there no option to pay for it and download it... it could be much quicker... after all, the Kicking Horse Pass route was small enough to download in a reasonable time, and I did this with dialup !!! I now have broadband, and I'm sure a lot of persons in England also have it now, and from what I've heard, British broadband customers get offered a package that's a lot faster than what we have here in NZ - about 3.4 mb/s or something ! Fair enough, I guess.

But if it's not going to be re-issued, then it would only be fair to release it as freeware, wouldn't it ? This would ensure that more people would download it, as a matter of common sense I'd think, and then these activities would get even more downloads, and perhaps more activities would be made as well... who knows. And, as a matter of interest, would you gusss as to why it was withdrawn ? Cheers.

Not if the Authors Have with drew their consent

what about if you sent it round to someone on a copyied CD for FREE and then got them to copy it and send it on so a hole cain can go round all FREE then that way do you still need the authors permission ?

Well I would say yes if not just for the sake of observeing good maners

May I correct an assumption made by Ka595. Ballyshannon was NOT payware. It was a freeware route that had been compiled with full permissions from the authors to be distributed via the UKTS CD distribution service. And as quite correctly said, permissions were withdrawn earlier this year.

And as for copying a CD to pass the copy on to someone else, then the conditions stated in the copyright notice on the CD MUST be read and adhered to.

Any offer to copy CDs against copyright permission ( or requesting others to do so) will not be allowed on the UKTS forums.

OK... but I didn't even remotely suggest that it could be copied, or anything. So, in short, what, exactly are my options here ? Possibly any e-mail address for the author/s of this route, available anywhere that I could be given, to try and contact them and ask for the files to be placed on a host site, albeit temporarally, for me to download, if he/they agreed to the request, as, after all, it was stated it was freeware. I'm interested in getting this route if possible, to add to my collection of different countries routes. Just a thought, is all. Cheers.

NO Jim I think it was this that prompted the Mods Statement Nothing you said Did you get the PM I sent you

would agree i would have to say it was me that prompted that reply also can i just say sorry for bringing it up

also are copy read me files in every downloaded route ?
