Does anyone know how I can Anglicise my Trainsim??

I have only installed the S&C and hence do not want any of these funny foreign thingies (and leave more space for my good ol' UK stuff)

I am told that deleting the files can sometimes cause a bit of a problem as the sounds etc are used, but at least how do I delete them off the drop down lists.

You may have realised by now that I'm a bit green at this.

The best way to Anglicise it is to download all available UK routes from here (or msts.nl if you're not a premium user) and download UK rolling stock and activities to go with them.

The problem you might have is that most (if not all) of the UK Route installation procedures assume a full 6 Route install of MSTS (my Woodhead does) to extract shapes/textures from.

The same condition can exist with locomotives - a large percentage 'borrow' cabviews and sounds.

I would install all 6 routes before you go any further, otherwise you'll be on here every day with a shopping list of problems for us to solve.

In any case, the other routes are worth having for the pleasure of driving them. You might not have any interest in "funny foreign thingies" at the moment, but that doesn't make them any less enjoyable to drive. In fact the original S&C (as on the msts CD) is probably the least interesting. The freight opportunities aren't as good as on the Marias Pass, you can't drive as fast on the NorthEast Corridor and the scenery isn't as good as the Arlberg or Hisatsu lines.

Give them a go.

If you decide to stick with just the S&C, then you will need to keep the sounds and cabviews of the foreign stuff for UK locos that alias to them. Remove any consists files that reference them and they won´t appear in the TrainSim drop downs. Remove their .eng files and they won´t appear in the consist editor drop downs.

Just too add to what martin has said, before MSTS I had no interest in foreign stuff. When Kuju put together the simulator they ensured that every route would a unique and completely different driving experience, (no I do not work for M$) and each is well worth trying.

I now have an appreciation of overseas, particularly American stuff that comes from the playing the game.
By sticking exclusively to UK stuff you really are missing out on some superb trains and driving.

If you do no other downloading, get Rich Garber's O&WVRR (American railroading at it's best), the Albula line (Swiss mountain railway like nothing else in MSTS), and Unterland (Austrian gorgeousness).

They're all better than any of the defaults and have kept my interest in MSTS very high indeed. Some real interesting driving experiences.

LOL! Possibly, and the first thing to say is it's North Switzerland based rather than Austrian... but what the hey, I've seen German and Austrian engines on it too, so I just had it in my mind that it's Austrian.

It's a fairly flat line with plenty of commuter and freight opportunities. A large loop at one end takes in a few towns and climbs and falls more than other parts. The towns are very nicely done and there's enough yards and sidings to keep all the freight users happy. All told, it's a very interesting and gorgeous route. Busy towns joined mainly by single line track.

The included activities are interesting enough but rely on default stock too much for me. I generally use it in explore mode when a new southern European piece of stock is uploaded to check it out, if anyone knows where I can get custom activities for it, I'd be very grateful.

The best way I have found to save on space is to delete all foreign locos (except sounds and cabviews) and all services, traffic patterns, activities and all but 2 paths from each route (allows me to go from 1 end to the other and back again). This save you a fair bit of space actually.
