That's what I thought, Tony !

Which did not answer my questions !

Which drive on your machine did you install MSTS from CDs into ?

Is the hard drive in the new computer better and faster than the old one, making it advisable to run MSTS on it ?

The old STORED MSTS being on the second internal hard drive is now drive D:, which Tony explained how to transfer into the newly installed one on drive C:, if that is where MSTS has been installed into. Any problems doing that ? If so Tony can help, I am sure !

Are the old computer's WINDOWS system files still on what was then it's drive C: and is now Drive D: ?

After you have succeeded to move all that is of use on the old drive over into the new one, the old drive should really be re-formatted and if large enough, partitioned into logical drive partitions first, which will make housekeeping on it easier, using it for BACK-UP of MSTS and other stuff !

MSTS Utilities such as Route Riter and Trainstore, which are on the old drive, need to be re-installed into a drive on the new disk.

No problem, Liam !

I shall try to make it as simple as I can.

So now you have your old disk/s installed in your new computer, WIN-XP having been installed on drive C: and the old "Train Simulator" folder is still on what is now drive D: ?

Are all it's folders still in it, such as FONTS\GLOBAL\GUI\ROUTES\SOUND\TEMPLATE & TRAINS, etc ?

From what you said in your last reply, MSTS has not been installed from CDs yet ?

In that case RENAME the old Train Simulator folder to MSTS and then install MSTS from the CDs into the same drive the renamed MSTS folder is now in, changing the installer's default driver letter to D:, if that's the drive where the MSTS folder is in, which will then install MSTS here: D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator.

Next COPY the entire contents of the MSTS folder, that's all the files such as the Train.exe and Launcher.exe and all it's folders and PASTE all into the newly installed Train Simulator folder. If you are doing this right then you should be asked that "This folder already contains....., would you like to replace the existing...." !

Next test run the installed default routes to make sure all works as it should !

Now should come the answer about how to retrieve the TRAINSTORE stored stuff, but that's were I am getting out of my depth and shall have to hand you over to Tony. Not sure where to re-install TRAINSTORE so that it can then deal with the stored routes, etc. Removing the old one first or simply install TRAINSTORE into where it is now on drive D: ?

Standing by !

Well I think that answer has already been given.

Question for Tony Formoso

Post by OTTODAD »

Hi Tony !

Slowly getting there via e-mail and preparing for the stage when Liam has MSTS re-installed and we can start thinking about un-storing from the Train Store folders, I re-installed my 3.2 version of it to refresh my memory.

Did not see your above reply until after posting this and am now aware of where it keeps it's stored data !

Testing whether stored MSTS date left behind in the Train Store folders by accident will cause problems, routes and rolling stock being stored again, resulted in none !

Re-installing TRAINSTORE into where it is still, but under a different drive letter, is also explained in it's Help !

Thanks for your help !
