Hi all i recently bought a Net gear super wireless ADSL modem router so i can access the internet from my computer in bedroom. i got it all up and running and ive got internet access on that computer now but it wont load up uktrainsim. Can you beleive that. it will open most other web sites fine but not uktrainsim:-( thats the main reason why i bought it. any 1 got any ideas. cheers all for youre help, i appreciate all answers

I can only say that i've been using a similar router for the past year or so, but have not had any problem dowloading or accessing any UKTS pages or other websites. at all Are you sure you have your router set up correctly?

Well speaking as an IT professional I would say you have a local configuration issue.

I have wireless networks at home (at BT connection for work and a Blueyonder connection for domestic use). My home network is cross wired to allow redundant access - see the diagram below



I have no issues with wireless access from the wireless PCs at home. The IBM T22 is regularly used for forum access on Sunday nights whilst I watch the NASCAR racing on cable TV.

I also work away from home every week - I have no issues getting wireless access at hotels or from our local wireless hotspots see http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=48293

would it have anything to do with the fire wall settings, because i know my net gear router has got fire wall protection and it seems i can access anything except sites or programs where you have to sign in.

Might be....although generally hardware firewalls are trouble free...if you accept the defaults.
Could also be a timeout by IE, as the UKTrainsim front page is one of the slowest sites to load I know. It takes 20-25 seconds on my wireless laptop,
I don't know how you alter that in IE though.

That is a fairly subjective opinion Jon. On my home cable connection CNN takes longer to load and Sky Sports is fairly dire despite being a UK site as opposed to UKTS hosting elsewhere.

On my 4 MB cable connection UKTS / Making Tracks / BATS / Europeanbhan / Trainsim.com all load within a reasonable time i.e. 3 - 10 seconds. Sadly, through my works connection all are significantly worse

If you are getting 20 second load times then I suggest you contact your ISP since I get a consistent service from all the major players in the trainsim arena and none of them come close to 20 seconds.

I get around 7 to 10 seconds on my desktop....so it would appear to be a slowing on my wireless side. Plus occasionally some of the graphics fail to load (old red x boxes), so I just wondered if he was also experiencing IE timeout on UKTS front page.
Fastest site I know in the train sim world is Ts.com...usually loads in 2-3 seconds on my desktop and 6-8 seconds on my laptop.
As I use multiple windows, I often use it to kick start other websites if they've gone sluggish, seems to wake up the wireless link somehow.

I have a D Link wireless router which i use to connect a laptop and a second PC. Both work fine with ukts with no appreciable difference in page loading speeds. Pages load in a tad under 2 seconds, too quick to time really. File download speeds have actually got quicker since i put the router and i can now average 240Kb/s again only 30Kb/s across the old wireless network.

Well ive done it i can now access all websites including UKTRAINSIM perfectly. Turns out it was the netgear servers mtu size. the default setting is about 1454 and because im with AOL it has to be changed to 1400. after changing that all works perfect. thanks all for advice and support. Im a happy man again
