Missing .s file

Post by fourletr »

My copy of Dorset Coast (which is excellent BTW) is missing the following file "DirtRoad2LStrt50m.s" I have a .sd file but searching the whole of Train Simulator directory does not find the .s version. BTW what is the difference between a .s and a .sd file, can I just copy and rename the .sd to .s ?

Hi , The short answer is no,Dont even attempt that.one is a shape file .s
the other is a shape definition file .sd.Have a look at the Dorset coast info and Post on that thread.

That is a MSTS default road section, which should be in the folder Global\Shapes.

Very Strange. I have MSTS installed on both my desktop and laptop and yet this file is not present on either of them. I wonder if there is any significance in the fact that most of the .sd files have a date of 2001 whereas the .s files are 2004.

Anyone any suggestions as to where I can obtain the missing file?

TIA

It should be in Global\Shapes.

If you can't find it, send me a PM and I'll mail it to you

Cheers

Thanks, that finally fixed it. I've now got the Dorset Route running on my Laptop, bit jerky round Vauxhall and Clapham but at least it doesn't crash. Settings as per recommendation and this on a machine with an AMD Sempron, 512 Meg of RAM and just a bog standard 64 meg video card.

Just one little thing... Waterloo platform 8 to Weymouth, just west of Basingstoke you need to manually switch tracks otherwise you end up in a field !!! The problem seems to be at Worting Junction. Not sure if this is an error in the path or whether it's intended. Working on trying to figure out how to change the path to make this automatic.

Ah me,, So much to learn, so little time. Fun tho !!! Even in my 75th year !!

Hi
This is the route to Salisbury....which isn't currently modelled.
When routes are built there is always a default path/route,from any given start point, this can even be into a siding
If you are in explore mode then you have to manually switch tracks.
Or go into AE and start your train at the correct platform at Basingstoke for straight on to Weymouth (without switching).
Then reverse the path, go to Waterloo and see which platform is indicated.
If you then start from this platform you'll drive straight through.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers
Jon
