TRAIN SIMULATOR 2003?????????????

Post by lincolnjambo »

Does anyone have any idea if they are going to make a new train sim cos the current version is good for a first but i feel it could have more options and the layout of flight sim, you know a menu bar along the top so you can change things during the game and not have to keep ending the activity.

I think Microsoft should make the Route builder and activity editor more user friendly!

Just thought of another for the wish list - bogies that turn the right way after you have flipped a vehicle around in a consist.

And some thunderstorms would be nice with perhaps a way of having faults develop on the loco/train when running and having to fix them or call out assistance.

But that could be a pipe dream

I've never had MSTS Flight Simulator  so I don't think it would be fair too poll, but for my own wish list, having experienced BVE would be track sounds that accelerate as your train does. Wheel sounds...er clickaty-click as you go over points & junctions. A slight rocking/hunting at speed. AI traffic with authentic engine sounds ( if installed) instead of the bland default rumble.

Must be more but I can't think of them just now.

Heres a few things

Post by larrylane »

There is certainly a lot more they could add if they did a train sim 2003.

1 Start Button + Stop Button, so we can fire the locos up.
2 More detailed engine info
3 Faults which develope during driving as someone suggests (sounds good)
4 Game does not end when you derail you choose to end it gives you chance to see your derailment properly
5 new camera views so you can see your derailments properly
6 Rear cab views as standard so we can run round and drive the trains the other way.
7 Proper passing view which allows you to see the WHOLE train pass
8 More random events which happen when driving eg fridge freezers on line, old robin reliants etc (but seriously more things to happen when driving)
9 Easier to use activity editor
10 Virtual cabs

There are just a few things i feel could be improved,

Consist Editor

Post by Kevo00 »

How about putting the consist editor inside the main program so you can mess around with consists more inside the main game? Infact why not have the whole activity editor as part of the main program? Seems logical really.

This is Microsoft remember, do they listen to users, do they hell.
MSTS to become really good needs to have a simplified route builder that takes months and not years to build a route. MSTS and Trainz combined would be good, the simplicity of building in Trainz with the relaistic routes that can be build in MSTS, unless SP3 for Traniz will give us the opertunity to build real routes? next week will tell.

Being able to set up Scenarios, rather than Activities would be good. Then you could (for example) sit and watch all the through-traffic at a station if you wished, or run an all-day duty along a line, or even swap to different trains while AI takes over driving the train you were in previously...

Maybe a Signalman/"Dispatcher" Mode too (for when the effort of firing gets too much!!! )
Even better, if this could be incorporated as part of Activity Editor could make THAT dreaded part of the MSTS world a "game" in its own right.

Another idea:
Incorporate the concept of "skins" more into the game design to allow a single route to be more easily adapted to different eras.
Wouldn't it be nice if the routes could be constructed in different levels? viz:
1) The underlying "hills & valleys" remain unchanged for centuries (or even millenia)
2) The trackbeds/formations usually remain little changed, even after closures/track removals etc
3) Scenery/Buildings/Trackwork can vary from decade to decade. If these could be loaded as a separate "skin" you could load, for example, S&C 1930's/40's/50's etc as a discrete option.
4) Following on from the above, appropriate stock could be associated to its correct era. Rummaging through the "dustbin" which is, as present, the MSTS 'locoshed' is a tad tedious! (Stephenson's "Rocket" pulling Mk3's for example).
(Incidentally, a general winge that I've always felt about M$/Kujo's lack of basic research-wasn't the S&C always a Midland/LMS route?
Did the Scotsman EVER work the line pre nationalisation/preservation?
& as for constantly encountering GWR consists on the default activities!?!?!?! :drinking:)

Does anyone else agree that "little things" like this might make the juggernaut that is MSTS a little more manageable?
