Hi Art

I can't find a file called Monitor.dat on my system and I only have a few routes installed. Sounds like it's associated with a recent installation?

I tried Google - there are a few foreign pages with both MSTS and this file name, but I can't currently make sense of them. One mentions 'driver aid'

I have a monitor.dat in my Train Simulator\GUI\Driveraids folder. It looks like it's the configuration file for the Track Monitor.

Check to see if you have one. Have you installed new driver aids lately, like the transparent ones?

Hello Art

Within MSTS there is the GUI ( Graphic User Interface ) this creates all the overlays within the game, these are simply panels or dialog boxes which allow the user to input information into MSTS.
A Widget is just a scripted sub-routine which is called from the GUI.
In this particular instance we are concerned with the following:

MS Train Simulator\GUI\driveraids.dat
Here is just the top part of that file.

SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0w1t______

Skip ( This datafile defines the driver aids overlays available to the player in the sim )
Skip ( Track Monitor, Next Signal, In-Train Forces, Accelerometer, On-Screen Tips )
Skip ( Points Indicator, Progress Indicator (timetable), Train Operations )

Skip ( Track Monitor )
TrGUI_Overlay
(
TrGUI_Overlay_Type ( 0 )
TrGUI_Widget ( monitor )
TrGUI_Drag_Bitmap ( track_monitor_drag )
TrGUI_Region
(
TrGUI_Region_Name ( TrackMonitor )
TrGUI_Region_Surf ( track_monitor_bk )
TrGUI_Region_Area ( 0 0 160 342 )
TrGUI_Region_Cursor ( arrow_cur )
TrGUI_Region_TextArea ( 18 5 118 14 )
TrGUI_Region_Font ( 9 255 255 255 )
TrGUI_Text_Pos ( "LCENTRE" )
)
)

The widget has called for the monitor.dat file but is unable to locate it.
Either it isn`t in the correct folder, it should be in: DRIVERAIDS folder or the file has become corrupt.

Hence the error : Error Load Overlay Widget File: Monitor.dat

If you have installed Transparent Driveraids just check that the Monitor.dat file is present in the DRIVERAIDS folder.

Kindest regards

Ray
