New to MSTS, some add-on advice please?

Post by GetCarter »

Hi all

Waiting for my copy of TS to arrive in the post... I'm a veteran of MSFS, so I'm very familiar with the concept of adding freeware/payware to improve the out-of-the-box experience!

Are there any must-have addons that you'd recommend I install straight away?

Also, I'd be really interested to hear of any routes and scenery representing North-East England that you could point me towards.

Many thanks in advance.

D.

Well, here's one for starters, and welcome. Available as a six part download or on CD complete with stock and activities for just £4.50p including P&P plus the bonus of a months subscription to UKTS.

Payware, I would recomend LSE, Protrain2 and protrain 7.
Freeware, Vern's 5 rout compilation is a must when it is availible again, it includes amongst others the South tyne and Far North lines

For me the two "must have's" would be both from Dave Corfield. His Thames Mersey and Dorset Coast routes are the business :) There are however many excellent routes to choose from, depending on really what area/time period you like.

The Highland Mainline is a must get, although only a downloadable version is avalible at the moment, a CD version is in the works :P

narrow gauge wise, Talyllyn & WLLR are both great routes

As a matter of interest the Yorkshire Coast Railway (YCR) is one of the few remaining CDs available at £4.50 from the CD ordering section of this web site after a certain person asked that no CDs be distributed with his "items" on it.

It has been built by John Kendrick who lives in the region and has researched it to a very high level.

And for something different I find Verns' Blackpool Tramway 1.3
very enjoyable. Has over 50 trams.

Start with the freeware downloadable here...
And then if you like MSTS enough consider if there are routes you might like to pay money for!

If you're not too strapped for cash I'd recommend the Severn Valley Railway it's superb also East Lancahire Railway and West Somerset Railway they are decent models of the preserved railway scene.
For a main line run you may also like the Cambrian Route.
Kind Regards Stephen

Do not overlook Pat Dalton's excellent Skipton 1920 route when it is available. it is a model of how a route shiould be presented. Although quite old it is still first class.
