How often do you use the cab controls?
Hi All
Just out of interest, how often do you all actually use the controls in the cab view with the mouse, as opposed to the keyboard, when driving?
Any comments etc, please post below.
I personally only use them if the keyboard controls work very slowly, and even then its usually only once in a blue moon.

An interesting and useful poll for a change
I hope the teams producing the new simulators take note of the results.
I use the mouse and cabview a lot when driving steam engines. The sensitivity when moving between "running" and "applying" on the brakes is essential.
When driving diesels or electrics then it is mainly keyboard since I tend to drive on view 2 or 3. With steam engines it is mostly in the cabview anyway so it makes sense to make fine adjustments using the mouse.
Anyway - enough of my ramblings - let's hear from others

Allways just use the keyboard
Ive allways got automatic fireman on when im driving steamers and have got the knack to get decent control of changing the brakes on the steam locos. Im jsut not very good at getting speed out of them

I only use the cab controls when I'm coming into a station too fast, and need too put the brakes on immediatly, as the keyboard can be too slow somtimes

Interesting to hear you say that! I only ever use them when the keyboard controls are slow, so it can be quicker to shove the handle up in the cabview. I never actually use them to stop the train though, probably because the actual view out of the scotsman cvf is so minimal, I find I cant see where I am stopping!Easilyconfused wrote: I use the mouse and cabview a lot when driving steam engines. EDIT: John, do you ever change the brake settings in your .eng files?

I only occasionally use the mouse to move the reverser of a steam loco. I prefer to do most of my driving from outside anyway.

Like a lot of you, I Drive on the keyboard with view2. Diving into the
cab to set the vacuum brakes and out again to watch the platform.
If the keyboard was only bit a quicker.
The exception to the above is when Im driving the big electric
trains, or some Blackpool trams, I enjoy the simple controls and wide drivers view.
I also use view4 quite a lot to watch em go. CU Eric

The only time I use the mouse is for vacuum brakes - having to jump from release to run to apply isn't realistic with the keyboard. Some steam locos I have used are set up with less of a jump and so the keyboard is fine - I think one of Terry's standard 5's might have been it, though can't remember off the top of my head.
