I am not sure how you are getting the "ignored red light" in explore route mode. I just tried to set up a problem myself on the Dorset Coast, by using a King Arthur and coaches starting from Weymouth P1. As the loco moved forward past the green signal at the platform end, the signal turned to red, as expected. I let the last coach clear the red light, then reversed the engine and let it run back into the platform. As the footplate reached the red light it turned to green again, and I was able to run forwards a second time. How exactly are you setting up the situation you have described? (i.e. what route, starting from what position?)
You will not be able to get any AI traffic in explore mode, you will need to start creating activities which will allow you to drive from one station to another, and set up some AI services. If you have a look in some of the other forums there is a lot of advice on creating activities.

You can if you use trainstore to create an Explore Mode Activity which is basically the same as explore mode except it has AI traffic and dead stock.AdamsRadial wrote:You will not be able to get any AI traffic in explore mode,
