Well after spending time reading this thread heres my views....

Firstly the price, well I didnt pay the asking price from EB, I used my regurlar internet source which sold it for £17.99. I buy all my add ons from there as they are the cheapest source when I can.

Well the route, it does it job I guess. Ok its not the greatest with buildings etc but it does what it generally needs to do. Fast running or slow regurlar stopping trains.

The stock is quite disappointing, I was certainly expecting more than 3 items! As previously mentioned on here the coaches in the HST consists are all the same & no buffet car, which in a commercial add is inexcusible! Freeware yes, but commercial NO!!!

The best thing about this add on is by far the HST & 91 sounds. Living on the south coast I dont hear a 91 very often but after travelling on the Eastcoast last year and hearing 91s, well they are spot on, so much so when I drove the 91 it made me say WOW!

In general it wont be everyones cup of tea but if its what you like, thundering along at 100mph plus then its worth a go. Far better if the stock supplied was more variable though.

If it's really high quality, people complain about framerates. If its scaled back, people complain that its not good enough, and there is always 'why should I pay for something when I can get an alternative for free' line being thrown around.

The blunt answer is - you DONT have to pay for something. Nobody forces you to buy anything, it's your own choice. I have absolutley no sympathy for those who buy a product, and then complain that there was an alternative available as freeware. You knew the freeware was available, but still made the choice to purchase a commercial product.

I'll also pre-empt a few responses that are likley - I accept that if you buy something you expect it to work. thats NOT my point here. I also accept that people may be dissapointed with thier purchase. Again this is NOT my point.

P.S - mods, if this thread needs moving, my apologies for sticking it in the wrong place. (And if it needs deleting, could you please let me know that it's gone! Thanks)
I'll say in public what I said in private and that's that you do an excellent job in a hostile environment.

The ECE was going to be panned by 'whoever' and names either predictable or unavailable.

I've not purchased the route and havn't seen it but I could've predicted the response and it's inconsitancies with other products.

Nevertheless, it's clearly above default standards, most buyers won't read these partisan coments and despite how much it hurts those who don't want EB around, it's available and probably selling which makes this a complete nonsense .... as usual :)

An unplayable frame killer is clearly far more preferable .... to someone .... but not those with an avarage computer and those who actually spend their time playing the game as opposed to those long since bored with it and seek only to profit from it :)

Cheers

ECE Activity 15 -- Midsummer Madness

Post by hitchinbus »

Hi Guys :-?
I am not sure if this is the right place for this but I know one of you will advise me if not.

In E C E Activity 15 - Midsomer Madness - just after the signal at the end of the tunnel past Hadley Wood, a Class 317 runs into the rear of my train and derails me thus ending the activity.

I tried to get arround this by leaving WGC earlier that advised and beating the local train (leaving from the right) to the first junction and was given (mostly) green signals for the rest of the way but could not enter Bounds Green Depot. Although I was allowed past several red signals by the use of the Tab Key I ended up stopped in Finsbury Park!!

Is the crash at Hadley tunnel a fault in ECE or is it suposed to happen (bearing in mind the activity title)??

I'm pretty certain that a derailment is not supposed to happen.
Over on the EB forum, I noticfed that someone having similar problems decided to re-install the route, and this sorted things out.

Why it would make any difference after re-installing I dont know, but just thought I'd post it on here as it appears to have worked for at least one person :)

Also, EB are working on a patch, so keep an eye out for that.

Cheers

I did manage by a stoke of luck to miss beig run into last time but the game did not end as I thought it should at Bounds Green.
I will keep a look out for the patch.

A let down is the only word I can say. Not worth the money going to put my copy on ebay & go back to running my GNER Stock on the Thames & Mersey

Does anyone know if it uses real, DEM'ed terrain, or is everything hand-made? It seems a bit too flat to be DEM'ed to me, but I guess that part of England IS flat...

It's flat alright! Not sure how its done, but there are gradients, and IIRC people have driven it with the gradient profile next to them and reckon its pretty accurate. As much as there are shortcomings with it, I do drive it a lot. Well until Great Eastern came along anyway...
