The F keys stopping working is one symptom of having too many consists.
If you think this may be the case, and the critical number seems to vary from computer to computer, you should consider installing 'trainstore' which will solve the problem.
If you already use it, or have few consists, you will need to look elsewhere I'm afraid. Cheers, Dave.

That's the first time I heard of that one !delticcity wrote:The F keys stopping working is one symptom of having too many consists.
I vaguely remembered others mentioning that problem a long time ago and doing a search over at TS.com found that renaming or deleting the KUJU startup.mpg in the GLOBAL folder to stop the annoying opening video running did the trick !
Your's still running ?

Hi Otto, I just replied in the other post. I just remembered I wasn't even using that pc to do the graphics work, I used the old one so I have no idea what happened. Getting back to this thread, however; The function keys packing up was the first sign of trouble when I reached a state of 'too many consists' and it was suggested on here straight away that that was the problem. Trainstore solved it instantly. Cheers, Dave
Thanks Dave for confirming that !delticcity wrote:The function keys packing up was the first sign of trouble when I reached a state of 'too many consists' and it was suggested on here straight away that that was the problem. Trainstore solved it instantly.
Will be filed away in case somebody else reports a similar problem over at Ts.com !

MSTS can exhibit some really odd behaviour when the 900 consists limit is reached. Not just GUI elements not working but camera movement acting strangely and even train physics behaving in odd ways.

Are you saying that you still have problems with them ?ibgm84 wrote:The F keys now exit the game completely.
I did not think that it had anything to do with having too many consists. There are guys in the States which have over 1500 of them, creating no problems, providing their computers have sufficient RAM.
I myself have 1.5 Gb of RAM, 805 consists, 918 TRAINSET folders and with all my 43 main MSTS routes switched on by Routes-OnOff have no problems whatsoever, other than slow loading of MSTS, understandably with all 43 routes active !
Have you tried renaming/deleting the startup.mpg file in the Train Simulator GLOBAL folder which helped some having a similar problem and have you got problems with F-Keys in other applications ?
