Current Price of MSTS

Post by bravedan »

Hi,

Wandering aimlessly around the games stores (it's me age, Doc), it became only too evident that stores are totally confused by MSTS and it's pricing. (I'm trying to be kind, OK?)

It's still being sold at £34.99 in one high street store, where almost alongside is the "budget" release of it at £9.99.

As a test I took both to the till and asked what the difference was, and apparantly the budget release is "an older version, without a lot of essential extras"..............................................HA HA HA!

Then this week I see it being offered in a High Street secondhand chain store in a pretty tatty box at £24.99.

Makes you wonder how many are being put off buying......................or are getting seriously ripped off.

Dave

P.S. anyone got an unwanted copy of NASCAR Racing 2003 Season?? My £15 is waiting........

The list price of MSTS is still £34.99 - so you could say that those who pay less are getting a bargain :)

Hi All

I picked up an original (Microsoft) MSTS V1.2 (latest version) in it's wrapped plastic covering (just for a backup for my existing MSTS Installation) for 10 pounds at our local PC Store Down Under in Western Australia about three months ago.

I haven't even opened it yet as to date since installing MSTS in early 2002 I have never had a crash requiring a re-install of MSTS!!

Regards

Ah, game store staff, don't you just love 'em, bless their little badly trained customer relations hearts :)

Maybe it's v1.0 and without the class 50, BR coaches and the indispensable v1.2 patch?

Then again £25 is a bit steep for a freely available online patch :)

It was re-released under the XPLOSIV brand as a £7.99 title list price, so £34.99 means you're getting the original Microsoft branded version and I don't think this is actually available anymore - anyone still selling it is selling old stock.

Must mean that they are selling it as a "rare collectable!"

Yes, Matt, spot on, the Xplosiv one should be £7.99, but was being sold at £9.99.............

As an aside, does anyone actually know for sure if the "budget" version is being sold updated as per the full price version???

I always check prices online over a variety of sites before I buy anything. On the few occasions I have gone into Games stores to see whether they had ANYTHING that would interest me for a PC I've been amazed that the PC section is now almost out the back and that titles regularly promoted online at huge discounts still sit on their shelves at full price. Even the console games are available at discount. Full whack seems a steep premium to pay for impatience? Most online orders arrive in under a week even from Jersey.

I believe someone posted here a while back that the xplosiv version was indeed the 1.2 version with 50 and SD40, so no reason for the other one to exist at all except for dumping stock :)

Yep, but you've had 5 years of good use out of it! I paid £50 too and I reckon it's been the best £50 I've ever spent on software.

Won mine in the launch competition along with an MS Explorer Mouse, how ironic is that.
