I have had some inconsistancies in download programs when unzipping files.
The problem I experience is that when the uploader instructs you to unzip the file to C. Program Msts trains sim trains trainset , Winzip dumps a folder in the trainset called Program files and this has all the folders mentioned above inside .
On other occassions some unzips work quite satisfactorily and create their locomotives folder OK in trainset.

Do other members experience the same problem and know what is going wrong for me.

I presume you are 'unzipping with folder names' on? You have to unzip to the right root so that WinZip or whatever will place the file in the correct location. Look at the Folder names on the RHS of the WinZip window - this shows you what folder name it will unzip to. Generally you have to navigate to the root of the MSTS Folder (in c:\program files\microsoft games\Train simulator) to unzip things properly - somteimes a bit deeper.

My most hated Forum saying - 'Hope this helps'

Unless the download has an auto installer, I tend to unzip stuff into the same folder as I download it into and then cut and paste the folder/files into the trainset or wherever. It takes a bit longer, but (in theory) I know exactly what has gone where.

Have a read through the beginners guide at the section on installing locos and wagons - i've covered numerous different options you're likely to see and what to do with them.

I also find that zip files tend to install every where as you have stated. The way I go about is to unzip to a temp directory add the cab and sound files if required and when finished with all zips then move the trainsets and con files to their appro dirs in MSTS.

sometimes people think they are being really helpful by including the entire path in the zip file - c:\program files\micro....

That is not at all helpful if you've installed MSTS to e:\games\msts or whatever! - a major cut'n'paste operation!

I unzip everything to a temp "unzipped" folder in my C drive and check everything before moving to my G:/msts folder. The full path is not useful for many people...I would suggest that "Trains/Trainset/"name"..... is enough. But thanks to all modelers for the great work.
