Route Control

Post by geoffhocking »

Anyone out there running the full version of Route Control and if so what do you think?
I bought it without really looking into it (too much money) thinking that it would pack all my add on routes, which it does, but then only allows you to load one route at a time (unless anyone can tell me different). I tried it out with the Valley route and it runs, but in a couple of areas I get message boxes stating that it cannot find shape file xxx.
My verdict, only buy it if you are really short of disk space.
On the other hand do download the free 'Lite' version, this does not allow any route packing etc, but the checkup for consists, locos etc is good.

I have the full version, it is as you describe. It was OK when I only had a 20GB HD, but now I have a 60GB I don't use it other than stuff I very rarely use.

Since then Route Riter has appeared, which does exactly what I'd original thought route control did - goes through your route tiles etc, works out what is used, and deletes the rest, saving some space but not at the expense of having to unload one route to use another. And its free. :)

route control

Post by Atlantic »

I only have a 20g hard disc and I found route control has saved me buying a new hard disc,I have valley railway running perfectly with route control, I do not mind only loading one route at a time as I only use one route at a time, I change my route approx every week. If I had a large hard disc I would not have bothered with route control, however I have managed to get routes running with route control,I could not get running manually.

I haven't tried route riter yet, I thought it was only used to pack routes for distribution, I now release that it does more.
Never mind another $25 down the drain.
Thanks for your comments.
