Help with installing Dorset V2 download

Post by jamestcc »

Hey everyone,

I need a bit of help with the installing with Dorset V2 download, is there a program I need to run to install it??

I've downloaded V2, copied it over to the existing V1 file I have got and couldn't see any "V2 download BAT file" and so did it via the V1 install BAT file with no joy, how do i install V2??

Thanks in advance

Hi
Well I haven't got it....but I'd be very surprised if Dave Corfield hasn't included full install instructions in a 'readme' file.

Just going to hijack James' thread.

I've installed the 4 upgrade files, but when I run the V2 Bat install the 'black' screen runs as normal for about 3 seconds then disappears. I'm sure it hasn't finished, as usually you have to close the window yourself; but I don't know why it keeps disappearing. Should I try re-downloading the upgrades or what? Train Store recognises it as version 2, but when I try running MSTS (with only Dorset in Train Store) it starts up as if there are no routes. Its apparently in Activity Editor, as Dorset V2 appears as the route name, but when you try to open it you get a 'failed to load track database' message. Help!

Hi Simon
Generally speaking Bat files are self closing.
I believe TS requires at least one actitivity before it can run, this can be one of the tutorial routes.
I believe the upgrade comes without activities or paths.
Is it possible you need to either install or update UKfinescale, and more importantly your Tsection. This may be stoping AE starting, stopping you from making a path/activity.
Hope this helps.

Thought of the activity problem Jon, so I purposely left one in, so I don't think thats the problem. I have just run the route through RR to see what it came up with and there are loads of Dynatrax files missing. Do I have to download this, as I just read the notes on it on the trainsimfiles site and it says it re writes 'World' files. Will it knacker any other routes? I've got tsection31.

Route-riter doesn't recognise dynatracks shapes so you can ignore all those errors. There is nothing further to download. the problem sounds to be with the batch file. It does close automatically, but should take longer than a few seconds. Are you sure you have all the default routes installed? I forgot that and had to go back and install them and then run the batch file again. Worked fine after that, then i just deleted the default route folders :)

Got the defaults, although they are in Train Store which shouldn't matter.

Simon

PS Just thought, could someone send me the bat file to see if that makes a difference. sddsddean@aol.com

Is this correct? In Classic Train Store it gives a bold red type warning about "not suitable for editing" unless all is unstored?

Not sure what they mean by 'editing' Geoff, but I have installed routes before with the defaults in Train Store.

If you look at Classic Train store the exact phrase is at the top and will be immediately obvious if you click on the Classic Tab.

Whatever, why not unstore everything and try running the BAT again. I was using ME until about a year ago and BATs ran fine. Since installing XP I often run them at least twice as I often don't think they've done all they should.

Give it a whorl.

Hi
As far as I am aware, you are correct, it doesn't matter whether the route is in store or not.(TS doesn't move textures, shapes etc)
The none editing warning is in relation to making or editing activities.
Its just telling you that not all stock/consists will be available to the editor.
I cannot send you a copy of the bat file as I don't have the downloaded version. Why not drop Dave Corfield a PM, 'ccsdc' on here.
Cheers

The bat file for V2 is very small - most default shapes and textures have already been copied during the V1 install. The track database error suggests that it is something a bit more serious than a few missing shapes or textures.

Some questions:

1. Did you have V1 working OK prior to upgrading to V2? If so then your tsection and UKFS is OK.

2. Have a look in the Dorset folder at the files dorset.tdb and dorset.tit - they should have modified dates of around 23/12/2005.

3. Try installing the patch file 2-1 - this installs a brand new tdb and tit file anyway, so you can ignore point 2 above.

V1 was fine and I'm on tsection31 and UKFS latest.

Both the files from patch 2-01 are modified 12/12/2005.

Whats next?

Simon,

That can't be right - the patch was only made this morning, the tdb and tit files should have todays date!!
