this is the most positive collective effort from the community in a long time and whatever the cause, lets hope it continues!
Yes, indeed. I only wish I had the skills to make a contribution.

I accept that Terry has a perfect right to do what he likes with his work. My concern with his decision is the following: If the reason for his decision is legitimate, and I of course assume that it is, and if it is the kind of reason that could be invoked by other uploaders to UKTrainSim, then this could be a huge disincentive for route builders and activity creators to share their work because they would never know when the rug would be pulled out from under them. Hence, an explanation would help to clarify things for everyone contributing their work to the MSTS community.

Perhaps to guard against this kind of thing happening again, uploaders to UKTrainSim should have to agree formally to allow their work to be used and distributed as part of other people's freeware routes and activities as required. Just a thought.

You do.

After stock has been changed in the activities they will need testing.

Is that what docmartin did? I do not think so.

He is asking for Terry to advise the community of his position. I have also been asking for this, both on the forums and direct to Terry, but have had no response from him.

I believe the saying is your 'never too old to learn'.
If you are as passionate about UKTS as you proclaim, then I'm sure you'll find a way to help.

Hi David
I have to say with the atitutude of the majority of the 'file downloaders' on here I wouldn't respond either.
May be if he recognises an email address he would reply.
My only dealings with him he has been very helpful, and previously he has encouraged many of the younger members into reskinning, regardless if that did his excellent models justice or not.
Cheers
Jon

I cannot believe what im hearing, reading the previously locked thread and now this one.

Do we need to replace these files if they are already on this computer or just the CD's released After the 24th december or after 01.01.06 or does this effect those already owning it.

If its the specific date could this thread be made into a sticky to help people know whats going on.

If its every CD thats been released since the start of msts then i wont be replacing the shape files.

Oh and all you guys doing a wonderful job making replacements i envy you, but work quickly, the Comunity needs you and since the affected routes are offline from the CD ordering pages this sites loosing valuable running cost's, unless matts won the lottery!!!!.

Matt posted the news article http://www.uktrainsim.com/index2.php?fo ... report=814 that says as current stocks get depleted the route goes unavailable until it can be fixed. Those with the route already do not need to do anything.

I have now had an opportunity to look at some of the threads both here and over on the BATS forum and as a result can see that the problems being discussed have ramifications far beyond Terry Thornton's individual decision, which I am now in a better position to appreciate. Of course, you have to be in the loop - which I definitely am not - fully to understand what has been going on but I have learnt enough to be able to form a view of the rights and wrongs of the intellectual property and also moral issues involved. However, since I cannot see that any useful purpose would be served by my expressing these views - and certainly not here, which is quite the wrong thread, I will shut up with a sincere apology in case I have wasted anybody's time and will leave you more talented chaps to get on with the good work of producing replacements for the withdrawn items. I wish you good luck with your efforts which I very much look forward to enjoying in due course.

PS. Thank you Jon and Ian for your words of encouragement. Yes, I am very good at testing activities to destruction  and hereby volunteer to do so when the time comes and when I have sorted out my MSTS installation, which seems to have become corrupted yet again as a result of a rather exotic WWII-era activity I was working on grr!

I only wish I had the time, sadly a luxury I have precious little of these days.

I agree. It has been a while since I was last in direct contact with Terry, but he was always extremely helpful and spent quite some time helping me dianose problems I was having exporting from TSM in the early days (despite the fact Terry has always modelled with 3D Canvas).

To get back on topic, I'd be happy to help with testing replacement objects, but (other than moral support), that's about all I can do I afraid.

My Bristol K Bus in the Green And Carmine Livery ( as in the screenshot Paul provided ) is currently awaiting approval.

As said in the file description, the textures aren't very sophisticated and are easily reskinned, so should be useful for anybody who wants to put it in a certain livery for their route.

Also, does anybody want to allocate me another scenery item that's needed urgently atm?

Well done guys,

This is absoloutly fantastic and wonderfully encouraging to see so much support emerge for MSTS. Im amazed at how quickly some of this content is being created. Its wonderful to see the community coming together to recreate all of the content we've lost.

Keep it up folks

Chris :)
