:-? I quite agree. My first post may have been a little ambiguous but I couldn’t have made the second much clearer?

It may have been some time back but there was an issue over GNER's logo use on a model, either a HST or Electric loco as I recall (as I already stated if some respondents had read it? :-? ) and I believe Christrains had a battle over use of Eurostar?
ianmacmillan wrote:If these companys plaster the real world with their logos and I can't see that they can complain if we include them when we model the real world.
I quite agree Ian! As the saying goes "There's no such thing as bad publicity!" Obviously they own the copyright of the use of the logo but they present this as a public identity. Try asking for a plain carrier bag in any Supermarket because you don’t want one with their logo on it…. Of course you won’t get one!

The point of this thread, which has only been picked up by one respondent, is that it was refreshing to see a corporation “joining inâ€

...........except that it was to illustrate differing attitudes towards the Sim by some UK companies as well as the US. Strangely we probably have more companies to deal with here nowadays as the US (despite all the old rioads liveries still seen) are run by a handful of major companies.

Ooh, Geoff, that's such a broad statement, I don't know where to begin.

For starters, last time I looked at the TOC's, a few large holding companies were fairly dominant, not to mention that the infrastructure is owned and operated by a single government entity. Secondly, while it's true that there are relativlely few Class 1 roads in the US compared with 20 or 30 years ago,
the consolidated roads that remain compete directly with each other for business. Thirdly, they have to pay for and maintain their own infrastructure, which, in a country this large, is phenomenally expensive.
Fourthly...... :)

Hi Stu,

I was of course refering to Class 1 railroads!

BTW in case you didn't realise all of our railways here are class 1,   ,   ,   ......in the minds of their PR departments.

Their "customers", who in the good old days used to be passengers, might however beg to differ with this analysis????

My only experience of a real US railroad (Canadian American, now part of Guilford Transportations group I believe?) was on holiday in Maine when I took photographs at Greenville of the old station and chatted to some guy's of a MOW crew. They were helpful and called their dispatch on their radio to find out when the next train was due. It was 2 a.m. next morning.......

Still I've got "fallen flags" web site to see what I might have missed.

BTW, and before Jon starts yelling "I told you this was a NA forum topic" do you know of any short line companies who've objected to use of their logo?

Mine aren't - they've been re-named to 'Tesco', and re-painted blue, as per the real thing!!!

It all seems rather petty to me, really ... :-?
