(I, for one, could probably justify £50 on new software I suppose, but not if it also means £1500 on new hardware)
lol. I've just bought my new hardware this morning, in anticipation... a nice new P4 2ghz :)

personally, I want MSTS for Xbox, utilising the Xbox Live network. Make the simulator a bit more mainstream, and I reckon it really WOULD sell and be popular, if they did an/the online bit right - imagine having all other trains on the route driven by real drivers? and new stock and routes downloading via broadband from the xbox live servers? how cool! :)

I voted for signalling surprise, surprise.

But in order:

1. Better signalling - I want to be able to do approach control and run trains like a real railway. Assign decent timetables and regulate trains properly.

2. Better editors - Spline based RE would be nice - point and click track laying!. I want to lay track, insert signals, line speeds and gradients in 2D then go into 3D for the rest.

3. More realistic. Cant of track. Sway of trains. People if possible. Better lighting. More weather options such as thunderstorms which would knock signalling systems out so you 'get change-of-aspect!'

4. Better distribution options would be nice. Over the internet signal control would be amazing.

I'd like to be able to change ends - imagine how this will improve the activities we can write, for instance Tim's new route will really lend itself to this - otherwise we'll to plan our routes assuming same direction of travel for ever.

Also quite interesting, is that a number of online retailers (including dabs.com) are listing it as "Microsoft Train Sim v1" - pointing to a "v2" not too far off...? :)

I don't think there's much doubt of it to be honest.

It has sold really well, nearly 700,000 copies I think.
They have patched it - and if MS had no intentions of supporting it, they wouldn't bother with the patch.
They have developed and released a game pack for GMAX for it, why do that if the product is end of line?
Add-ons are selling very well also as far as I can tell and there's still a huge amount of scope for new ones.

Plus the fact that Kuju are or have been advertising for jobs on the franchise I don't think it takes much imagination or assumption to say "yup, there's one coming".

As to when, I would suspect an announcement from MS probably around October/November of this year and then release probably July 2003 if their FS2002 schedule was anything to go by.

Matt.

Not on the list but I would like to see something like my collection in Trainz. There are that many models available now for MSTS, I have no idea what I have. Or is there a budding programmer out there that could do it now.

what next for MSTS

Post by Atlantic »

MSTS,can learn a thing or two from BVE ,especially as BVE is free, the intensity of the scenery and sound effects in BVE are superior,MSTS always looks as though there has been a natural disaster on Earth,no movement ,no people, the landscape is dead. I enjoy MSTS but only thanks to all the wonderful people who provide the free add ons to really make it worthwhile.I would love to see a proper signalling sysrem in MSTS,again BVE scores.

I would like to be able to drive a train or loco from A to B, then be able to click onto another train within the route and continue driving that one, much the same as a driver would work / relieve different services... Not asking much I know... :)

I'd like to be able to assign the brakes and throttle to a joystick axis, and a map of the route with the trains location shown.

i'd like Micro$oft/Kuju to make an AUSSIE add-on pack - simply because in Trainz there is heaps of default Aussie stuff, and i like aussie stuff :D
