I used to submit articles to the PECO range of railway magazines years ago, having been a Märklin and LGB user.ianmacmillan wrote:They just need people to submit articles.
After having seen the new Train Sims might do so again !
Trouble is, Train Sims are competition for model railway manufacturers, many switching over to them at their expense like I did, a thousands sterling customer drying up ?

I tried to get British Railway Modelling and Model Rail interested in the idea some time ago and pretty much offered to write a column for free, but I wasn't even graced with a "thanks, but no thanks".
The most I've seen in any UK magazines is the occasional review of commercial products (SVR for example) and advertisements (including the infamous one when MSTS first came out showing Flying Scotsman with highly dodgy valve gear).
At the very least, they don't seem to be interested, and they may also be some truth in the fact that they don't want to advertise the competition (I think simulators are more of a complementary product reall, at least for now).

To be honest, I'm not sure there'd be much market for a Trainsim magazine. Think about it-trainsimming by very definition requires a computer, and most people who have a computer have the internet. Why, then, would they fork out for a magazine which they have to wait a month for when they can come on forums like these and talk about it instantly and (apart from the fee for the internet connection) for free?

'Traction' Magazine features reviews of train sim products on a regular basis. Being a 'real' rather than 'model' railway magazine I suppose they have no interest in the threat to modelling posed by train simulators. Maybe they would be interested in printing a few train sim articles from contributors?

I think what is needed after the release of next generation Train Sims from KUJU, TRAINMASTER and AURAN is a new publication concentrating on COMPUTER SIMULATIONS, such as Flight, Trains, Racing, etc.
I am sure that there will be a huge market for it out there, if the new Train Sims fulfil their promise and Microsoft release FS-2006 next year, which seems almost a certainty now, so the UKFS-User group reports.
I have been dealing with a few U.K. and international publishers in the past and will make a point of mentioning this idea to them if the new Train Sims are up to scratch.
What has been lacking with MSTS was more publicity in magazines, mentioning the HUGE choice of excellent add-on Freeware and Payware all over the world, such a new magazine could address ! I get plenty of that with all the Flightsim magazines I read !
