does anyone know what the specs are for the most up to date computer ?, i am hoping i will get a new tower for dare i say it......................... christmas, so i need to know what the specs are, so i will be able to run at least a couple of sims at one time because I am soooooo sick of my old one, it is getting very close to being chucked out of the window !

3.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, 256MB video card are all 'affordable' this days although I know no one generous enough to make me a Christmas present of one

your question is a bit like how long is a piece of string.

Is your Santa Claus "well heeled"?

If so why not check out a company like Mesh. They offer on sight maintanance (for a price - but better than those rip off extended guarantees) and have sevreal "types" of model aimed at various tasks i.e multi media, gamers, office etc. You can "build your own" from a wide chooice of add-ons and they will set it all up for you. I know a couple of people who have bought from them more than once and are happy with their machines and the service.

At least look at their site http://www.meshcomputers.com/ as it will give you an idea about options and relative costs. Even if you don't like their machines it's a good guide as to where the markets at.

Hi there,Kerr, davvydo said he only wanted to run a couple of sims,not flippin Nassa space station!!!
Love your setup specs though,except 7800GTX graphics card is better,but theres now a 512mb version from nvidia at I believe £429, try two of those instead.
Also try ddr2 or higher spec memory instead,3200,s are long gone now.
Also whats a floppy?extinct like t.trex.forget them,dont need it.
Watch out Mars here we come,by the fastest train on a pc system.
By the way mate which one of those setups is your pc?

I am only wanting to get a 'tower' or 'base unit' I can get a custom made one around 250-500 quid

250 to 500 notes!for custom made,well that takes care of the graphics card and 200 gig sata drive at 500 notes.what about rest of set up.
250 notes is scraping the barrel.350 and above but below 500 well?hmm.
Well depending what else apart from trainsimming you want to do, you need to get a decent setup that you can easily upgrade at a later date.so go for sli 775 motherboard, pci express slotted,a decent nvidia pci express graphics card,(ie 6800gt 128mb ) at least 1 gig dual chan corsair memory(never lets you down,well not under normal conditions)sata harddrive(very cheap now 200gig 60 notes)sony dvd/writer drive(more reliable) and cpu of say p4ht 3.2 min.,
Only a guide but look at ebay,its quite poss you will find some cheap gear there,but do check online prices first at other retailers online,dont always pay ebay prices,they are not always the cheapest by the time you add p/p costs.so be careful.
Oh yes the case should be a good one with decent and effective airflow,with at least 2 fans,you can add more if you want too.,and of course a tagan 480v 520v, or 580v (if sli is used,)psu,it has a good stable 12 volt rail inside it for extra power.
