I've decided to treat myself to a new monitor but seem to remember hearing that flat screens are not as good as CRT monitors for graphics due to slower response times. I read about a flat screen monitor with a response time of 4ms, apparently this is very fast, but its £309.
Any advice would be a big help. Cheers, Dave.

Yes, that sound like my new 19" ViewSonic VX924, it's 4ms said to be the fastest there is as far as refresh rates are concerned !
And it looks good at 1024 x 768, my favourite resolution for the MSTS Editors, just below it's native resolution, it is best at !
£ 326, incl. delivery from DABS.

I got it mainly to get away from the CRT's Cathode Ray emissions, having developed an old age form of Leukaemia, likely to kill me in anything up to 25 years !delticcity wrote:Thats the one! Does it perform as well or better than a CRT monitor with MSTS? I would prefer a flattie if so. Cheers.
Top CRT monitors, like my 21" Mitsubishi are still the best as far as graphics displays are concerned, but I can not see much difference with MSTS.

I recently bought a 17in 12ms TFT, and that works fine with MSTS and the latest games - haven't noticed any blur yet. I mainly bought it as a backup to my dying CRT, but I've actually not used my CRT since. I will though probably set up my CRT as a secondary display, to test MSTS models/etc. at 1600x1200 - as I can't achieve that on my TFT, and the colours are less saturated.
CRT's are not very healthy things - I no longer feel zapped after a long PC session, and no longer get eye strain. TFT's are much cheaper to run as well - mine uses a third of the power of my CRT!

Bought a 15" TFT and didn't like it at first. Restricted to 1024x768, refresh rates lower and not able to view properly unless in front of it meant quality appeared worse.
Print isn't as clear and I'm not sure of the impact on eyesight but the pictures and MSTS looks 100% better.
Wouldn't change back now
Prices have tumbled and I wish my old CRT had held out a little longer as 17" and it appears 19" are now the same price.
That's life
