Route Riter - Am I missing something

Post by Breedlings »

When checking a route in Route Riter it appears to be only looking in the default routes folders not all the installed routes for any missing files.

Is this me missing something fundamental?

This does not make sense !

Are you checking for something missing in just one route or in all of them ?

Which particular Route Riter function are you using to check for missing files ?

Having set the Route Riter's MSTS Path, are all installed routes showing on the left ?

Well.... If I've understood the question correctly... the answer is yes that is what Route Riter does......it can only check in the default routes.
Other missing files it will report....but you then have to manually search , copy and paste.

The check route button on the main tab

Route-Riter checks only in the folders of the default routes to see if it can find files that are missing from the route that you have asked it to check.

It does not check in the folders of any routes that you have added to your MSTS installation.

As far as I know, that has been what R-R does right from the beginning of its development.

Elaborating on what John said, the RR does not "check" the Default routes to see what is missing but checks to find items the Route Riter reports missing when checking a route, giving an option to replace the missing item if it has found one in the Default Routes.

If if does not offer an alternative then Alex will have to search for the missing file elsewhere.

I Find - Files and Folders sometimes finds one in add-on routes !

If there are many missing then it could be that the installed route's Installme.bat has not been run ! ;-)

No, you are all wrong, Route-Riter originally just checked the Default routes for missing files, but I changed this some time ago to check all the routes in same installation of MSTS as the route being checked was installed in.

This worked, but apparently has become broken somewhere along the way, as I just tested it by removing two files from a route I have and which I know are in another route, yet it reported them as missing. (The effor message always referred to just 'Not found in Default routes', this should have been changed).

Anyway, I will have a look to see what has gone wrong when I get back from the super-market (even I have to eat some times).

Note: In case it was not reported over there, Australia beat Uruguay in the world cup elimination match last night, so will be over in Germany next year to hammer you lot after you stole the Ashes from us :-)...

Route riter

Post by DTA »

I am not surprised they are all wrong. Some just post for the sake of their own importance, and some with mistaken info. Just as an example, it has been plain for the past 2 years that ATI graphics work better than Nvidia cards on MSTS, (just look at all the graphic errors reported on Nvidia cards on various forums, and note their are virtually none for ATI cards). Yet one of our "experts" has only just come to the same conclusion. While some think they know everything, others pass on advice that they relly are expert about.

As regards to route riter, I have no problems with it, and it has solved a number of problems on many of the commercial routes I have.

Strange that David,
As far as i can remember, its the other way around Nvida cards are meant to be better for MSTS not ATI.
And please don't post like that, its just right to start a flame war, which we don't want.

Nvidia v ATI

Post by DTA »

The Nvidia v ATI is not just my opinion. If you can find 1 ATI problem on any MSTS forum to any 10 on Nvidia, I will recant, which is a fair offer. Personally, I have never seen a problem with ATI cards on MSTS, apart from the common snow problem which is easily fixed, and applies to both cards.

Hi David
I think its the "Floating objects" which have caused most problems.
On YCR and Dorset Coast mainly.

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... ght=upside

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... hlight=ati

Although some swear by ATI......others won't go near them.
I would imagine there are more posts about Nvidia cards........because there are more installed.

As to the 'broken' RR..........must have been 'broken' for over the 2 years I've been using it......I've always had to search and copy........although more recently, with lots of mini route installations it wouldn't really help me.

But point taken, can't be correct all the time.

Cheers

OK, I think it is now fixed. I added the ability to check all routes some time ago, but as the program is now some 3.6 megabytes of code, it is easy for me to miss some bits in it. It did check all routes for some things, but textures/terrtex/sound were missed. This was my fault.

I have now also completed the code to produce thumbnails of every rolling-stock item so that everything displays properly in Conbuilder including views of consists as you build them.

Update available on my site and also on Yuri's site at

Yes, I saw excerpts of that game on Sky early this morning. Well done Oz !

As for the Ashes, if they carry on the way they are playing now it won't be long before you get them back !
