Trainsim UK

Post by dinmore »

It would appear that Vern Moorhouse has shut down his website and wishes to have no further involvement in the train sim community :(
This is a message copied from his home page....

The Trainsim UK project has been concluded and the web site shut down.
I would like to thank all those who have supported the project over the last six and a half years. However in recent months I have found it hard to find much enthusiasm for the hobby - the site achieved what it set out to do and I had already planned to wind things up next March when the hosting fell due for renewal. Recent events on the Trainz forum have shown the community spirit that existed in those early days has been replaced...by something else and hastened my decision. I know it's only a small minority but once the well has been poisoned, the water is unlikely to run clean again. My heart is not in it anymore.

I wish the developers of the new sims good luck (you're going to need it!) with their efforts but I'm unlikely to play an active part either in the run-up to release or development of content afterwards.

Best wishes to everyone for the future.

Unfortunately someone else who has been put off by comments made by others on forums, a shame :(
Community spirit is the key word, and with recent posts on this forum it makes you wonder if things may start going the same way here......... :-?

Humph. It is easy enough, I think, to blame other people for your own actions. That's just a "cop out."

As for myself, I got tired of MSTS a few years ago and simply disappeared from the scene and stopped using the sim for 6 or 8 months. Then I got back into it.

I would not, however, lay my personal choices at anyone else's feet.

For people who have very thin skins, I have a large supply of "duckback oil" to sell at reasonable prices. You simply pour a can over your back--or, better, get a friend to rub it in--and "stuff" just rolls off.

Hi
I don't think Big Vern has posted much to these forums for a while.
I don't frequent the Trainz forums myself, but I can only feel if any influence has been brought to bear, it is from that community.
I do know Vern has recently released his Ayr route for TSR2006, but I don't know how well this was received.
Perhaps some one with some facts will post to this thread.
Cheers
Jon

Jon
Thanks for that Jon, I did try a search to make sure I wasn't double posting but it returned no results.

Just to clarify, as per Vern's statement above, the ill feeling came from the trainz community.

Actually even more specific than that.....I K B.........who is renowned for being a right £$%*&^.............and the reason why he's banned from every site....except Trainz.....maybe they'll learn.

The really strange thing is....as far as I know.....he has never actually produced anything usefull in his trainsim career....just likes to slag off others work.

Cheers

 That post on the Trainz forum was disgusting. I quite understand what Vern's done although obviously he will be missed greatly - good luck in the future mate and thanks for everything you've done for MSTS. ;) :handshake:

I just had a look at the trainz topic and in the time IKB spent taking screenshots and posting indepth criticism he probably could of built a route himself.

I'm struck by the contradiction in the response to comments made about Vern's route and the response to younger and newer members uploading NG stuff here. I admit I was nervous when I first uploaded. Very different attiudes pravailed then though.

I feel sure Vern has more about him than to let one person decide his future in trainsimming, he's said as much on these forums and on his website.

There is an earlier thread on the same subject which sheds more, if not a prettier, light on the matter.

Other than that I wouldn't seek to excuse any form of forum abuse and only to attempt to ensure the whole picture is taken into account.

Having purchased the Far North and West Highland routes I can say that I have nothing but admiration for Verns work and I feel he will be sorely missed.
I feel that with forums there is quite often a tendancy to post before you think, witness some of the quality of posts and the lack of thought that goes into the spelling, grammar and presentation. This so often results in misunderstanding and misinterpretation.
As an aside, I was offered a free copy of Trainz recently and, to be honest, seeing some of the screenshots posted on the UKTS forum, I turned it down. I suppose it's just a matter of taste. What some people like, others don't. That's human nature.

I echo Martins feelings

Thanks Vern a visit to your site from one of the other sim sites led me back to MSTS, shaking the cobwebs off the box.

All the best to you and yours, good luck with your future ventures

Thanks

John
