Changing couplings / braking

Post by WSR2005 »

How do you edit the .eng / .wag files to use different couplings or braking systems? I have already tried other suggested methods but an error message now comes up when I run Train Simulator. it reads something along the lines of 'Train Simulator cannot read file TRAINS/TRAINSET/PENDENNIS/gwrrest.wag'. I tried this because the GWR stock is automatically coupled.

Download Route Riter and use that to change all the couplings and brakes automatically. :)

Open up the .wag or .eng file using Wordpad (or, if you are running Win XP, Notepad). Look for the lines on couplings and brakes. If you start by looking at some of the default files (but not changing them!) you will soon get the idea. When you are ready to save a file, just hit the red "X" at the window top. If you do "File/Save" your file may not be saved as Unicode (which is what the MSTS files are - they appear to be normal text files but aren't), which might perhaps be your problem if you have tried editing files before.

The fact that the files are Unicode not text is why Notepad doesn't work in Win98.
