TextPad Text Editor

Post by dforrest »

Does anyone else use TextPad as their text editor in MSTS?

Personally, I use ConText everywhere, and OpenOffice for anything that requires formatting etc.
Thats because I like the highlighters and the much better sense of control that ConText gives.

I use the Bindoze edition of gVim as an editor and Oo.org for word processing.

I've uploaded a bunch of Syntax files for MSTS to http://www.textpad.com. To go straight to them go to http://www.textpad.com/add-ons/synh2m.html

They cover the following formats:

MSTS ACT.syn - Activity Files
MSTS CON.syn - Consists
MSTS CVF.syn - Cab View Files
MSTS DB_IT.syn - RDB, RIT, TDB and TIT files
MSTS ENG.syn - Engine and Wagon Files
MSTS ENV.syn - Environment Files
MSTS HAZ.syn - Hazard Files
MSTS MKR.syn - Marker Files
MSTS PAL.syn - Palette Files
MSTS PAT.syn - Path Files
MSTS REF.syn - REF Files
MSTS SD.syn - Shape Definition Files
MSTS SMS.syn - Sound Managment System Files
MSTS SRV.syn - Service Files
MSTS TRF.syn - Traffic Files
MSTS WS.syn - World Sound Files

If you use TextPad just make sure that the Write Unicode and UTF-8 BOM option is selected, otherwise MSTS cannot read the files

No problem - I uploaded them a month or so back, but forgot to tell anyone here

I've tried to include as many undocumented commands that I can find - if you find that any are missing let me know so that I can add them in.

I found them last week and am finding them very useful. I wanted to thank you then but could find no way to contact the author!

Just one comment. I have removed the line "CommentStartAlt = #" from .con, .act. .srv, .eng and .wag files as it makes lines with AI loco names, which normally start with a "#" character, display incorrectly.

Can I suggest that you also upload the file here.

Glad you find them useful - I have updated them to remove the # comments, added a syntax definition for uncompressed S files, and have included some instructions for people not familiar with TextPad.

I have uploaded the new version to UkTrainSim - should appear in the Download Library soon.

Thanks for those Welshmilla, I use Ultra-Edit rather than TextPad, however those highlighters also work in Ultra-Edit with very little extra editing.

I was always intending to do a set for Ultra-Edit and you have saved me a lot of work.

Thanks,
I will have to ask permission from the original author, but I have not finished putting them all into Ultra-Edit yet, will let you know when I get them all done.

There's no problem with making your UltraEdit version available Mike - just mention me in the readme! :)
