The names of the MINI Route folders can be anything and do not have to be called "Train Simulator". The shorter their names the easier to create Desktop Shortcuts for their TRAIN- and LAUNCHER.EXE -runeditor Target: and Start in: lines.
They are fully functioning copies of the installed Train Simulator and do not need a Registry entry. Any TRAIN.EXE or LAUNCHER.EXE running anywhere automatically checks the default MSTS Registry entries and re-sets the default MSTS OPTIONS from any MINI route if necessary.
Both the Editors can be used, but not the Route Geometry Extractor, which works with the installed into the Registry Train Simulator only.
Another advantage of having MINI routes is that they can be experimented and messed with without interfering with files in the GLOBAL and other folders in the default MSTS as well as being able to reduce the size of their TRAINSET folders, removing rolling stock their activities do not need, loading their routes faster still. The Route Riter has a function to just get the rolling stock the MINI routes need.
I am using a "MINI ROUTES MASTER" which after creating it once can then be used as blueprint for other copies.
O.K., TRAINSTORE does similar but was found by many a handful to get used to, apart from a huge and comprehensive manual having to be learned from first !
Below is what mine look like, created by myself before the Route Riter automated much of it !

P.S.: Edited to correct a few minor spelling mistakes !
